VINTAGE WRESTLING: A LONG ROAD AHEAD SHOW REPORT

By Richard Trionfo on 3/15/2015 3:48 AM
On Saturday night, Vintage Wrestling returned to action in Orlando, Florida with their ‘A Long Road Ahead’ show. Here are the results.

The show opened with the play by play announcers giving everyone a recap of what happened at Wrestlebrawl in January, including the crowning of a new Vintage Champion.

Match Number One: Beastmode (Biff Slater and Don Maximo [with Billy Wood]) defeated The Buddy System (Grover and Mikey) to retain the Vintage Wrestling Tag Team Titles when Biff pinned Mikey after a spike power bomb.

After the match, Beastmode attacked Grover. Billy Wood then mentioned that since First Degree was not going to be at the show, Dark City Fight Club would not be appearing since they do not have opponents.

Match Number Two: Afroman defeated Monster (with Rico Moon) by count out to retain the Vintage Wrestling Internet TV Championship.

Match Number Three: Deathrow Jethro defeated Nightstalker with a Vader Bomb.

After the match, Nightstalker attacked Jethro and security had to separate them. Nightstalker got a motorized saw from under the ring.

Milo Beasley hosted a live edition of the Milo Beasley Show with his guest Chris Hero. Hero wanted to be a part of the main event for the Vintage Championship. The challenger for the Vintage Championship, Jonny Vandal made his way to the ring and told Hero he would not take his spot. Vintage Champion Simon Sex comes out and he says he wants a Triple Threat match so that will be the main event tonight.

Match Number Four: Francisco Ciatso defeated Wayne Van Dyke with a Flatline.

After the match, Ciatso talked about losing the title in January and he says that wants another shot.

Billy Wood interrupts Ciatso’s challenge.

Match Number Five: Mike Cruz defeated Craig Classic with a single leg Boston Crab. During the match, the referee was knocked out and while the referee was out, Classic put Cruz in the Stretch Muffler and Cruz tapped, but the referee was not conscious to hear the tap out.

It was time for intermission.

Match Number Six: Bruce Santee defeated Lex Lovett with the Big Dump

Match Number Seven: Psycho Stan versus Clyde Braddock went to a No Contest when Dark City Fight Club attacked both men and laid both men out.

Kory Chavis got on the mic and he talks about how Dark City will get the Vintage Tag Team Championships.

Match Number Eight: Simon Sez defeated Jonny Vandal and Chris Hero to retain the Vintage Heavyweight Championsip when Sez pinned Vandal after a clothesline.

After the match, Hero takes the title but he eventually gives it back to Simon.

Simon says that winning the title was the greatest moment of his life. Mike Cruz comes out and he challenges Simon for the title at their next show in April. Simon accepts and Cruz slaps Simon in the face before leaving the ring.

Vintage Wrestling Notes

Vintage Wrestling returns to action on Saturday, April 18th for their Sixth Anniversary Show in Orlando. Vintage will run in New Port Richey on Saturday May 16 and in Orlando on Sunday, May 17.

Thoughts on the Show

I thought the best match on the show was Mike Cruz versus Craig Classic. Of all of the matches on the show, this was the one I was most looking forward to. I have not seen either man wrestle in a long time for different reasons. The last time I saw Cruz wrestle, I was impressed with his work, but he has shown improvement and he is one of the best wrestlers in the state. I have not seen Craig wrestle since he moved to Japan, but he still looked solid in the ring.

I was a bit disappointed that the only thing Dark City Fight Club did was a brief run in since their schedule opponents were not there. For similar reasons as to why I have not seen Mike Cruz wrestle in a while, I have not seen Dark City in action in a long time and I was hoping to see them dominate like they did when they were NWA World Tag Team Champions or FIP Tag Team Champions.

Even though their appearance was limited, I liked Kory Chavis’ promo.

It was good to see veterans like Bruce Santee and Lex Lovett in the ring since they were on some of the first shows I attended when I moved to Tampa and started regularly attending independent shows.

I thought there was some good action in the main event. There was some good interaction between Hero and Vandal to work over Simon so they could work over the champion. Of course there was going to be someone turning to end the alliance and of course it was Vandal who attacked Hero.

I like that they are giving Cruz a shot at the title. While Hero is probably going to stay in the title picture as long as he is involved with Vintage, Cruz’ match against Craig Classic showed how good he is in the ring.
