LOS ANGELES – On tonight’s UFC TONIGHT, host Kenny Florian and guest host Michael Bisping talk to Cris Cyborg. Karyn Bryant and Ariel Helwani add reports.
UFC TONIGHT Insider Ariel Helwani on Alexander Gustafsson’s latest injury: “I spoke to his manager. Alex has been dealing with back issues and some other minor issues. They feel like he needs more time and rehab. He will be ready to get back in the cage in September. Now there are talks about Glover Teixeira vs. Ryan Bader. But Ryan’s manager doesn’t want that. Even though Glover beat Bader, Bader is now on a four fight win streak, and Glover is on a two fight losing street. Bader wants to wait for the title shot.”
UFC TONIGHT host Kenny Florian on if he was Bader, would he’d take on Glover: “When you have that history, I would think he’d want to right that wrong.”
Helwani on Brendan Schaub cutting to light heavyweight: “Schaub told me he’s going to do a test cut soon and wants to make a light heavyweight debut in October.”
Helwani on Jorge Masvidal’s division change: “Jorge Masvidal told me he’s done fighting at 155 and it’s too hard for him to cut down. He believes he should be 7-0 at lightweight in the UFC, but instead is at 5-2 after two controversial losses. He was thinking about making a move to 170, and he’s ready whenever and wherever. He wants to make some headway there.”
Helwani on Demian Maia’s next opponent: “I talked to Demian Maia and he’d like to fight Tarec Saffiedine next. Saffiedine needs a few more weeks to get back to training, but this would be good timing for Maia.”
Helwani reports on Chris Weidman’s prep for UFC 187: “Chris Weidman told me he’s been randomly tested four times before his fight by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.”
Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino on if she can make it to 135: “I have a professional nutritional guy and he helped me much easier to make 145. I can 100 percent make it.”
Justino on if she wants to fight Ronda Rousey: “I’m ready for this fight. When she was in Strikeforce, I wanted to make the fight. I try 100 percent to make 135. It’s annoying. I want to fight her.”
Justino on if she wants the UFC title or a fight with Ronda more: “All fighters want to be a champ in the UFC. I think for now it’d be great to see me and Ronda fight. I don’t want her belt. I just want to fight her. Let’s go fight. Let’s go meet at 140. Let’s do it.”
Georges St-Pierre on if he wants to come back to the UFC: “It’s not interesting for me right now. I’m not sure. I just really don’t know. That’s why I didn’t say if I’m retired yet. I just don’t know. I want to sit back, relax and watch the show. More and more, I have more fun in training and the fire is coming back. But it should be a rational decision as well.”
