UFC FIGHT NIGHT 66 PREVIEW & PREDICTIONS

By David Tees on 5/15/2015 7:50 PM

The UFC is traveling to the Philippines for one of the better international cards of the year with UFC Fight Night 66. The event will be headlined by a huge featherweight division bout as Frankie Edgar faces Urijah Faber in a dream bout. Also, Gegard Mousasi faces Costas Philippou and Mark Munoz will be competing in his retirement bout.

Main Card

Main Event

UFC Featherweight Division Fight

Frankie “The Answer” Edgar (18-4-1) vs. “The California Kid” Urijah Faber (32-7-0)

Edgar will enter the fight riding a three fight winning streak, which includes a third victory over BJ Penn at the UFC Ultimate Fighter 19 Finale. Faber will be fighting for the first time as a featherweight in the UFC, going 8-3-0 as a bantamweight in the promotion. Edgar will be competing in his third straight main event, his last non-main event bout was against Charles Oliveira at UFC 162. Faber has won six of his last seven fights, with his lone defeat coming to former UFC Bantamweight Champion Renan Barao. This fight has all the potential to be a “fight of the year” and it will be Edgar barely outworking Faber to earn a close decision win.

Co-Main Event

UFC Middleweight Division Fight

Gegard “The Dreamcatcher” Mousasi (36-5-2) vs. Costas Philippou (13-4-0-1NC)

Mousasi has rotated wins and losses throughout his UFC run, with his last fight being a win over Dan Henderson at UFC On Fox 14. Philippou has won just one of his last three under the UFC banner, with that lone win coming over Lorenz Larkin at UFC Fight Night: Brown vs. Silva. Mousasi is a former Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Champion and he has competed exclusively as a middleweight in the UFC. Philippou will be returning to action after a year’s absence, which is the longest time between fights in his professional MMA career. Mousasi has gotten a huge advantage in one area that is going to hurt Philippou, which is his ground game, Mousasi gets a first round submission.

UFC Middleweight Division Fight

Luke “Bigslow” Barnatt (8-2-0) vs. “The Filipino Wrecking Machine” Mark Munoz (13-6-0)

Barnatt will enter the fight riding a two fight losing streak and he has not won a fight in just over a full year. Munoz will be competing in his retirement fight here and he has won just one of his last five fights under the UFC banner. Munoz has the weakest chin in the UFC right now, Barnatt will quickly connect with a few strikes to put Munoz down in the first.

UFC Welterweight Division Fight

Hyun Gyu “The Ace” Lim (13-4-1) vs. Neil Magny (14-3-0)

Lim has won three of four fights under the UFC banner, most notably defeating Pascal Krauss by knockout at UFC 164. Magny will enter the fight riding a six fight winning streak, which includes five of those wins coming in 2014 alone. Magny is one of the best rising stars in the UFC right now, he will out strike Lim to get a decision victory.

UFC Lightweight Division Fight

Yui Chul “The Korean Bulldozer” Nam (18-4-1) vs. Phillipe “Super” Nover (10-5-1)

Nam is currently undefeated in UFC competition, having defeated Kazuki Tokudome at UFC Fight Night: Kim vs. Hathaway. Nover will be returning to the UFC after a five year absence, having won five of seven outside of the promotion. Nover deservedly is back in the UFC, but Nam is an amazing striker and he will get a quick finish to stay undefeated in the UFC.

UFC Featherweight Division Fight

Mark Eddiva (6-1-0) vs. Levan “The Hornet” Makashvili (6-1-0)

Eddiva has won one of two fights under the UFC banner, with that lone win coming over Jumabieke Tuerxun at UFC Fight Night: Kim vs. Hathaway. Makashvili will be making his UFC debut in this fight, but he is a former Cage Fury Fighting Championships Featherweight Champion. Eddiva is the better all-around fighter when compared to Makashvili and Eddiva will get a close decision here.

Preliminary Card

Tae Hyun Bang over Jon Tuck

Kajan Johnson over Zhang Lipeng

Dhiego Lima over Li Jingliang

Royston Wee over Ning Guangyou

Jon Delos Reyes over Roldan Sangacha-an
