BELLATOR 140 PREVIEW & PREDICTIONS

By David Tees on 7/15/2015 4:55 PM

With every passing event since Scott Coker took over, Bellator MMA is gaining steam and they are not slowing down anytime soon. This event will be headlined by a welterweight title bout as Douglas Lima defends the gold against Andrey Koreshkov. Also, a night filled with welterweights will see Paul Daley, Michael Page, Chris Honeycutt and others step into the cage.

Main Card

Main Event

Bellator MMA Welterweight Title Fight

Douglas “The Phenom” Lima (26-5-0) (Champion) vs. Andrey “Spartan” Koreshkov (17-1-0)

Lima will be making the first defense of his championship, which he won by defeating Rick Hawn by TKO at Bellator 117. Koreshkov will enter the fight riding a four fight winning streak, which includes a win over UFC veteran Nah-Shon Burrell. Lima will be returning to action after a fifteen month layoff and he has not suffered a defeat in over three years. Koreshkov earned a title shot after winning a welterweight tournament, defeating Adam McDonough in the finals. Both fighters are coming off of long layoffs, but Lima is nowhere near the striker that Koreshkov is, Koreshkov takes the gold with a third round TKO.

Co-Main Event

Bellator MMA Welterweight Division Fight

Paul “The Gentleman” Bradley (22-6-0-1NC) vs. Chris “The Cutt” Honeycutt (6-0-0)

Bradley has won two of three fights under the Bellator MMA banner, last defeating fellow UFC veteran Josh Neer at Bellator 129. Honeycutt has already won two bouts while in Bellator MMA, which includes a win over UFC veteran Aaron Wilkinson. Bradley fought twice in the UFC, suffering defeats to both Rafael Natal and Mike Pierce respectively. Honeycutt has already held gold in professional MMA, as he is the current Up & Comers MMA Welterweight Champion. Bradley’s best part of his game is his ground attack, but Honeycutt’s ground game is far better and he gets the decision over Bradley.

Bellator MMA Welterweight Division Fight

Rudy “Bad News” Bears (16-13-0) vs. Michael “Venom” Page (7-0-0)

Bears will be returning to Bellator MMA after a three year absence, having won two of four fights in between appearances. Page has already won three bouts under the Bellator MMA banner, including a win over UFC veteran Nah-Shon Burrell. Bears is simply in the cage because Page needs a body to hit, Page gets a quick first round TKO in this one.

Bellator MMA Welterweight Division Fight

Roger “The Leprechaun” Carroll (16-11-0) vs. Brennan “The Irish Bad Boy” Ward (10-3-0)

Carroll will be making his Bellator MMA debut in this fight, but he does enter the promotion riding a three fight winning streak. Ward has only won just one of his last three under the Bellator MMA banner, with that lone win coming over Curtis Millender at Bellator 134. Carroll would have had a better chance if he did not have a week’s worth of preparation, Ward grounds Carroll and gets a first round submission win.

Bellator MMA Welterweight Division Fight

Paul “Semtex” Daley (36-13-2) vs. Dennis Olson (14-8-0)

Daley is a UFC veteran who is undefeated in Bellator MMA, which includes a win over Strikeforce veteran Rudy Bears. Olson is returning to Bellator MMA after a five year absence, having won three of seven in between appearances. Olson would have had no shot even if he were not a late replacement, Daley finishes him with strikes in the opening round.
