LEGACY FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIPS 43 PREVIEW & PREDICTIONS

By David Tees on 7/17/2015 9:01 PM

In between a very busy week of action from the UFC will be one of the better cards from the Legacy Fighting Championships promotion. The event will headlined by the crowning of a new welterweight champion as Derrick Krantz faces UFC veteran Brock Larson. Also, UFC veteran Jacob Volkmann competes and other top MMA prospects will be stepping into the cage.

Main Card

Main Event

Legacy FC Welterweight Title Decision Fight

Derrick “D-Rock” Krantz (16-8-0) vs. Brock Larson (41-9-0)

Krantz will enter the fight riding a two fight winning streak, with those wins coming over two UFC veterans in Daniel Roberts and Kyle Bradley. Larson will be making his Legacy FC debut in this fight and he does so having won four of his last five fights. Krantz has challenged for this title once before, losing to then champion Jorge Patino by submission at Legacy FC 18. Larson competed in the lone Battleground MMA Welterweight Tournament, losing to Roan Carneiro in the finals. Larson has a very dominating wrestling game, which is what he will use to grind out a decision and take the gold home.

Co-Main Event

Legacy FC Welterweight Division Fight

Zak Ottow (9-2-0) vs. Jacob “Feelgood” Volkmann (17-6-0)

Ottow will be making his Legacy FC debut in this fight, but he does enter the promotion on the strength of a three fight winning streak. Volkmann has rotated wins and losses since his UFC release, which came after a loss to Bobby Green at UFC 156. Ottow has only gone to a decision once in his eleven fight MMA career, which was in his pro debut in May 2012. Volkmann will be returning to action after a year layoff, with his last bout being a loss to TJ O’Brien at Pinnacle Combat 16. Ottow is a skilled fighter, but Volkmann has one of the better controlling ground games, Volkmann gets a boring decision win here.

Legacy FC Middleweight Division Fight

Chase Waldon (7-1-0) vs. Nick Wagner (7-4-1)

Waldon will make his Legacy FC debut on a six fight winning streak and his lone loss as a pro came to one time WSOF Heavyweight Title challenger Derrick Mehmen. Wagner has only won just one of his last four fights and he will be returning to action after a three year layoff. Wagner has a punchers chance in this one, but Waldon will ground him quickly to get a first round submission.

Legacy FC Bantamweight Division Fight

Augusto “Tanquinho” Mendes (4-0-0) vs. Donald “The Deathwish” Williams (3-4-0)

Mendes has already fought twice under the Legacy FC banner, having defeated both Richard Delfin and Evan Martinez. Williams will enter the fight riding a three fight losing streak and he has not earned a victory in over two years. This is easily the biggest mismatch on the card, Mendes quickly gets Williams down before quickly tapping him out.

Legacy FC Welterweight Division Fight

Billy Christianson (9-4-0) vs. Derek “The Pretzel” Getzel (7-4-0)

Christianson will be making his Legacy FC debut in this fight and he is returning to competition after a nineteen month absence. Getzel has won four of five heading into his Legacy FC debut and he has not competed in just over two year’s time. Neither fighter is much of a world beater at this point in their careers, Christianson gets a decision in this slugfest.

Legacy FC Featherweight Division Fight

Courtney Buck (12-10-0) vs. Nate Richardson (3-1-0)

Buck will be making his Legacy FC debut in this fight and he has only competed once in the last two years of his career. Richardson will also be making his Legacy FC debut in this fight and he does so on a three fight winning streak. Buck has a huge experience edge when compared to Richardson, Buck grinds out a decision win in this bout.

Preliminary Card

Ron Winslow over Matt Lagou

Mitch White over Raufeon Stots
