UFC 190 PREVIEW & PREDICTIONS

By David Tees on 7/31/2015 10:08 PM

The biggest star in all of MMA right now returns to the octagon this Saturday Night to defend her championship at UFC 190. That is because UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey will defend the gold against Bethe Correia. Also, both of the Nogueira Brothers are in action and former WSOF Women’s Strawweight Champion Jessica Aguilar makes her UFC debut.

Main Card

Main Event

UFC Women’s Bantamweight Title Fight

“Rowdy” Ronda Rousey (11-0-0) (Champion) vs. Bethe “Pitbull” Correia (9-0-0)

Rousey will be making the seventh defense of her championship, she last defended it against Cat Zingano at UFC 184. Correia has won all three fights under the UFC banner, with two of those wins coming over members of the Rousey lead “Four Horsewomen.” Rousey has not spent much time in the octagon as of late, as her last three title defenses lasted under two minutes of total time. Correia is competing in Brazil for the first time in her UFC run, her last fight in Brazil came at Jungle Fight 54 in June 2013. Correia does have a good striking game, but that will not deter Rousey, who quickly taps her with an arm bar in the first round.

Co-Main Event

UFC Light Heavyweight Division Fight

Antonio Rogerio “Minotauro” Nogueira (21-6-0) vs. Mauricio “Shogun” Rua (22-10-0)

Nogueira has won two of his last three under the UFC banner, but he is coming off of a loss to Anthony Johnson at UFC On Fox 12. Rua won the initial meeting between the two, which came over ten years ago at PRIDE FC: Critical Countdown ’05. Nogueira will be returning to action after a year’s absence and he has not competed twice in a calendar year since 2011. Rua has only won just one of his last five in the UFC, with that lone win coming over James Te Huna at UFC Fight Night: Hunt vs. Bigfoot. These are two MMA legends who are well past their prime at this point, Rua gets a second round TKO win here.

UFC Ultimate Fighter Brazil IV Lightweight Finals

Fernando “Acuogueiro” Bruno (15-2-0) vs. Glaico Franca “Nego” Moreira (12-3-0)

Bruno will make his UFC debut on a four fight winning streak and he was the winner of the 300 Sparta 5 MMA Featherweight Grand Prix. Moreira will be making his UFC debut on a two fight winning streak, with both of those wins being first round finishes. Bruno is an amazing fighter when it comes to the ground game, Bruno drags Moreira to the ground for the first round submission win.

UFC Ultimate Fighter Brazil IV Bantamweight Finals

Dileno Lopes (18-1-0) vs. Reginaldo Vieira (12-3-0)

Lopes will be making his UFC debut in this fight and he will be doing so on the strength of a five fight winning streak. Vieira will also be making his UFC debut in this fight, but he has previously fought UFC veterans Rony Jason and Pedro Munhoz. The majority of this contest should be contested on the ground, which is where Lopes will get a close submission win.

UFC Heavyweight Division Fight

Antonio Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira (34-9-1-1NC) vs. Stefan “Skyscraper” Struve (25-7-0)

Nogueira has only won just one of his last four under the UFC banner, with that lone win coming over Dave Herman at UFC 153. Struve will enter the fight on a two fight losing streak and he has not secured a victory in nearly three years. Struve is a fighter who has never learned to use him amazing reach to win fights, Nogueira gets the home country knockout here.

UFC Heavyweight Division Fight

Soa “The Hulk” Palelei (22-4-0) vs. Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva (18-7-1)

Palelei has won four of five fights in his second UFC run, most notably defeating Pat Barry by knockout at UFC Fight Night: Hunt vs. Bigfoot. Silva will enter the fight riding a three fight losing streak and he has not garnered a victory in well over two years. Silva’s chin has been getting weaker with every passing day, Palelei wears him down on the ground before getting a TKO finish.

UFC Women’s Strawweight Division Fight

Jessica “Jag” Aguilar (19-4-0) vs. Claudia “Claudinha” Gadelha (12-1-0)

Aguilar will be making her UFC debut in this fight, but she was the first and (thus far) only WSOF Women’s Strawweight Champion. Gadelha has won just one of two under the UFC banner, with that lone loss coming to current UFC Women’s Strawweight Champion Joanna Jedrzeczyk. Aguilar’s strength is taking the fight to the ground, but Gadelha will be too strong for her and she will control her on the ground instead to get a decision win.
