PALHARES CONTROVERSY SPOILS WSOF 22 MAIN EVENT

By David Tees on 8/2/2015 8:32 PM

Current World Series Of Fighting Welterweight Champion Rousimar Palhares successfully defended his title against Jake Shields at the WSOF 22, but not without controversy. Palhares tapped out Shields with a kimura in the third round to get the victory, but Palhares seemingly refused to release the hold after both continuous tapping from Shields and referee Steve Mazzagatti’s continued urging for the hold to be released.

Shields was so incensed by Palhares’s actions that he punched the fighter after Palhares was finally separated from the fighter. The Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) has already withheld the win bonus from Palhares and WSOF matchmaker Ali Abdelaziz’s reviewing of the tape and subsequent rulings may see Palhares stripped of his belt or just outright released by the promotion. A ruling is expected to be announced shortly, a rematch between the two fighters have already been discussed by WSOF officials.
