MMA FIGHTER WINS CHAMPIONSHIP WHILE PREGNANT

By David Tees on 8/17/2015 6:13 PM

Kinberly Novaes competed on May 17th of this year and defeated Renata Baldan to win the Noxii MMA Women’s Strawweight Title. She was then scheduled to make her American MMA debut against Jocelyn Jones-Lybarger this coming Friday Night at Resurrection Fighting Alliance 29, but she had to be pulled from the event after it was revealed that she was six months pregnant (24 weeks). Which, if you do the math, means that the fighter was 3 months pregnant (12 weeks) when she competed for Noxii MMA in Brazil.

Novaes was not tested for pregnancy prior to the bout, which is something all female MMA fighters must do before a fight, because Noxii MMA runs unregulated events in Brazil.According to various reports, the baby is going to be a boy, while both baby and mother are healthy as can be. Novaes only found out she was pregnant when she started feeling sick while cutting weight for her RFA 29 bout, a visit to the doctor revealed the news. There is no word yet on whether of not Noxii MMA, which is again running unregulated shows in Brazil, will be dealing with any legal repercussion.
