CORMIER ON HOLM’S VICTORY: “RONDA DOESN’T HAVE THE STRIKING TO STAY WITH A PERSON THAT’S AS SHARP AS HOLLY HOLM.”

Mir on Jedrzejczyk beating Letourneau: “We saw the difference between a great fighter and a champion. The champ came out and made adjustments, Valerie didn’t.”

Los Angeles – The following quotes and videos are from tonight’s FS1 UFC 193 POSTFIGHT SHOW on FS1 hosted by Karyn Bryant, with Daniel Cormier, Rashad Evans and Frank Mir providing analysis. Ariel Helwani conducted interviews.

FOX UFC analyst Daniel Cormier on Holly Holm’s upset of Ronda Rousey: “These are the nights that we live for as MMA analysts. Rashad said this was the matchup that would cause Ronda problems. Holly did a great job with the straight jab. She showed she wasn’t going to be physically dominated by Ronda right from the start. Ronda was out of her element the moment she couldn’t implement her game plan. Ronda doesn’t have the striking to stay with a person that’s as sharp as Holly Holm. When someone goes to swing a punch and they’re so mixed up that they fall down throwing the punch, you know it was over.”

FOX UFC analyst Rashad Evans on Holm’s victory: “It was effective footwork that made it all possible. She had nice bouncy footwork and it was hard to land shots. Ronda got frustrated and started chasing. It was just a matter of time until she would land the big blow.”

FOX UFC analyst Frank Mir on Holm nullifying Rousey’s game: “Holm landed the straight left hand over and over. Ronda didn’t have an answer for it. Judo doesn’t work unless you’re driving in on it. How Holly was backing up totally nullified Ronda’s style.”

Cormier on Holm executing a good plan: “With Holm, after the punch, comes the kick. When she throws that kick, it’s going to land. Did you see how unaware Ronda was that something was going to come when she was standing up right at the end?”

Evans on Holm’s game plan: “She didn’t start kicking until second round. Ronda tries to rush in in most her fights. But you can’t fight a high level striker like that. She’s trained with the best.”

Mir on Rousey losing the fight: “It exposed that she still has a lot to learn with her stand up. She’s strong, but we got to see so many holes in her game tonight.”

Holly Holm on what it feels like winning: “I don’t know what it feels like right now. I’ll probably have a couple of sleepless nights replaying it. I feel so blessed.”

Holm on what she thought of Rousey at the weigh-in: “I saw her coming and she’s getting into it. When she came in, I felt like there was a lot of emotion and I felt like I had an edge. But I wanted to stay focused and still had to fight.”

Holm on fighting Rousey out of the clinch: “I can’t tell you how many times we worked on that defense in the camp. I had the best help in the world. We did everything so many times. At Jackson Winks’ it came down to a whole game plan. Greg Jackson is the master who came up with the plan. Winkeljohn handled the standup. He kept it simple. My wrestling coach Izzy Martinez was for all the physical fight in between that makes it an MMA fight. I had the best help I could and I had no excuse to lose.”

Holm on when she felt she had Rousey: “We didn’t want to be there for her counter. She has knockout power. I didn’t want to make that a habit getting hit by the counter. We needed to move and be precise. She hit me a few times. She has the power, but you have to be in range. I wanted to go forward in a smart way. I didn’t want her to bum rush me to the cage. The game plan we had worked out great.”

Cormier on Rousey rebuilding her confidence: “It’s tough. We’ve all built her up to be unbeatable. There will be a lot of distractions when you’re the champion. I think she did get exposed tonight. She has some holes. She’s been so dominant in the past, but that didn’t work tonight. She has work to do. I don’t think we need an immediate rematch. The things she needs to fix will take a little time.”

Evans on Joanna Jedrzejczyk defending her title vs. Valerie Letourneau: “Valerie was a huge underdog but she was more than game tonight. She was able to stand in the pocket and take Joanna down in the first. But the champ started to find her distance and timing. Joanna could do anything she wanted once she got the timing and then the leg kicks started coming.”

Mir on Letourneau starting strong, but not making adjustments: “Valerie earned Joanna’s respect with her right hand. But we saw the difference between a great fighter and a champion. The champ came out and made adjustments. She was much more calculated with the straight jab and strategic with the leg kicks. Valerie had a great plan, but when champ made adjustments, Valerie didn’t. She should have added something to what she was doing. Joanna started to pull away and had a definitive victory.”

Evans on Jedrzejczyk adjusting in the fight: “Once Joanna got her movement going, the jab came faster and the leg kicks became smoother. Valerie stayed in the pocket too long.”

Joanna Jedrzejczyk on being emotional after the victory: “I’m a real person. I’m a real fighter. I always work so hard.

Jedrzejczyk on what she thought about Letourneau: “I expected a tough fight. She’s a tough opponent. She’s really in shape. We gave a good fight. All the best to her. We were expecting a tough fight.”

Jedrzejczyk on being overcome by the evening: “I became a UFC fighter 15 months ago and became a champion so quickly. Now I’ve defended my title two times. I’m very happy they gave me this chance. I’m so happy.”

UFC President Dana White on what he thought about Holm beating Rousey: “Wow! I was talking to Joe Rogan and he thinks it’s the biggest upset in UFC history. I made this fight. Holly had everything that we talked out - the range, the boxing. She went to the hospital because her lip is split and it needs stitches.”

White on if Rousey has been distracted by too much lately: “It’s been a tough couple of months for her. She’s mentally the strongest person I’ve ever met. If anyone could deal with it it’s her.”

White on if Rousey deserves a rematch and if it’ll come soon: “I think she has. But she still has a movie to film. I wouldn’t see her back any sooner.”

White on how UFC 193 did overall: “This fight broke most of our records tonight.”
