BELLATOR 147 PREVIEW & PREDICTIONS

By David Tees on 12/2/2015 6:40 PM

The final show of the year for Bellator MMA is upon us this Friday Night and the promotion intends to finish the year with a bang. The event will be headlined by a key lightweight division bout as Josh Thomson faces Pablo Villaseca. Also, Georgi Karakhanyan faces Daniel Weichel in a featherweight bout and Brian Rogers moves up to light heavyweight.

Main Card

Main Event

Josh “The Punk” Thomson (21-8-0-1NC) vs. Pablo “El Gallo” Villaseca (10-1-0)

Thomson is a UFC veteran who is currently undefeated in Bellator MMA, having defeated MIke Bronzoulis at Bellator 142. Villaseca is currently winless in Bellator MMA, having dropped a bout to Bobby Cooper at Bellator 139. Thomson is coming off of a poor run in the UFC, where he dropped three of four fights in the promotion. Villaseca has had a lot of success outside of Bellator MMA, winning the Cage Dominator Tournament in 2013. Villaseca is a worthy opponent for Thomson, despite the lack of name value, but Thomson will overwhelm Villaseca with his wrestling before submitting him in the second.

Co-Main Event

Bellator MMA Featherweight Division Fight

“Insane” Georgi Karakhanyan (24-4-1) vs. Daniel “The Weasel” Weichel (35-9-0)

Karakhanyan has been undefeated in his second Bellator MMA run, having defeated Bubba Jenkins at Belator 132. Weichel will be competing for the first time since losing a featherweight title bout to then champion Patricio Freire at Bellator 138. Karakhanyan did win the WSOF Featherweight Title prior to returning to Bellator MMA, he lost the belt to Rick Glenn at the WSOF X. Weichel had been on a seven fight winning streak prior to the title fight loss, with notable wins over Pat Curran and Desmond Green. This may be a late candidate for “fight of the year”, Karakhanyan will get a razor thin decision after a three round war on the ground.

Bellator MMA Lightweight Division Fight

“Barbaric” Derek Anderson (12-2-0-1NC) vs. Patricky “Pitbull” Freire (14-6-0)

Anderson did win the initial meeting between the two, which came via unanimous decision at Bellator 98. Freire has won four of five since that loss to Anderson, which includes an appearance in the finals of the last Bellator MMA Lightweight Tournament. Freire has one of the better striking games in Bellator MMA, but Anderson will again ground him with wrestling to get another decision.

Bellator MMA Light Heavyweight Division Fight

Brian “The Professional Predator” Rogers (11-8-0) vs. Virgil “Rezdog” Zwicker (14-4-1)

Rogers will be making his light heavyweight division debut in this fight and he has only won just one of his last five in Bellator MMA. Zwicker will enter the fight riding a two fight winning streak, which includes wins over UFC veterans Houston Alexander and Razak Al-Hassan. Rogers was one of the best knockout artist at one time in all of MMA, but Zwicker will overwhelm him with strikes on route to a TKO victory.

Bellator MMA Lightweight Division Fight

Adam Piccolotti (6-0-0) vs. Mario “Dr. Mario” Soto (6-1-0)

Piccolotti has already won two bouts under the Bellator MMA banner, last defeating Salvador Becerra at Bellator 142. Soto will be making his Bellator MMA debut in this fight and he will be returning to action after a year-plus layoff. Soto is coming back from a long layoff and that will affect him in this bout, Piccolotti mixes it up in the cage tom earn a decision.
