UFC 194 PREVIEW & PREDICTIONS

By David Tees on 12/11/2015 7:19 PM

Arguably the biggest UFC event of all time is taking place this Saturday Night in Las Vegas as UFC 194 has finally arrived. The event will be headlined by a pair of title bouts as Jose Aldo faces Conor McGregor in a featherweight title unification fight and Chris Weidman defends the middleweight belt against Luke Rockhold. Also, Ronaldo Souza faces Yoel Romero and featherweight prospect Max Holloway looks for another big win.

Main Card

Main Event

UFC Featherweight Title Unification Fight

Jose “Scarface” Aldo (25-1-0) (UFC Featherweight Champion) vs. “The Notorious” Conor McGregor (18-2-0) (UFC Interim Featherweight Champion)

Aldo will be making the ninth defense of his championship, last defending it against Chad Mendes at UFC 179. McGregor won the interim championship back at UFC 189, when he defeated Chad Mendes by second round TKO. Aldo will be returning to action after a fourteen month layoff, which is the longest such layoff in his pro career. McGregor will enter the fight riding a fourteen fight winning steak and he has not suffered a defeat in well over five years. The health of Aldo is the biggest question heading into the fight, Aldo wears down McGregor early with leg kicks, but McGregor eventually counters Aldo late for a fifth round finish.

Co-Main Event

UFC Middleweight Title Fight

“All American” Chris Weidman (13-0-0) (Champion) vs. Luke Rockhold (14-2-0)

Weidman will be making the fourth defense of his championship, last defending it against Vitor Belfort at UFC 187. Rockhold will enter the fight riding a four fight winning streak, last defeating Lyoto Machida at UFC On Fox 15. This will be Weidman’s fifth title bout in the UFC, only one of his previous four went to the judge’s scorecards. Rockhold has previously held gold in his MMA career as he was the final Strikeforce Middleweight Champion. Weidman will use his wrestling to stifle Rockhold early, but Rockhold eventually uses his striking game to get a close decision victory.

UFC Middleweight Division Fight

Yoel “Soldier Of God” Romero (10-1-0) vs. Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza (22-3-0-1NC)

Romero is currently undefeated under the UFC banner, last defeating Lyoto Machida at UFC Fight Night: Machida vs. Romero. Souza is another competitor who is undefeated in UFC competition and he is a former Strikeforce Middleweight Champion. Romero will use his awesome wrestling game to ground Souza throughout the bout, but Souza is a wizard on the ground and he catches Romero with a late submission.

UFC Welterweight Division Fight

Demian Maia (21-6-0) vs. Gunner “Gunni” Nelson (14-1-1)

Maia will enter the fight riding a three fight winning streak, last defeating Neil Magny by submission at UFC 190. Nelson has won five of six bouts under the UFC banner, most notably defeating Brandon Thatch at UFC 189. Nelson and Maia will both want the fight on the ground, but Maia is superior on the ground and he earns a close decision win.

UFC Featherweight Division Fight

Max “Blessed” Holloway (14-3-0) vs. Jeremy “Lil’ Heathen” Stephens (24-11-0)

Holloway will enter the fight riding a seven fight winning streak and this will be his first pay-per-view appearance in twenty months. Stephens has only won just one of his last three under the UFC banner, with that lone win coming over Dennis Bermudez at UFC 189. Stephens will keep things close for a while with his striking game, but Holloway is a better technical striker and he will get a late finish.
