ONE CHAMPIONSHIPS 36 PREVIEW & PREDICTIONS

By David Tees on 1/21/2016 9:59 PM

One Championships makes their 2016 debut this coming Saturday with a star studded line up and a title bout in the main event. The card will be headlined by a bantamweight title bout as Bibiano Fernandes defends against Kevin Belingon. Also, there is a four man bantamweight tournament and several top prospects from the far east are stepping into the cage.

Main Event

One Championships Bantamweight Title Fight

Bibiano “The Flash” Fernandes (18-3-0) (Champion) vs. Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon (13-4-0)

Fernandes will be making the fifth defense of his championship, last defending it against Toni Tauru at One Championships 29. Belingon has rotated wins and losses in his last five appearances in One Championships, with his last bout being a win over Koetsu Okazaki at One FC 23. Fernandes is coming off his least active year as a fighter since 2007 as he only competed once in 2015. Belingon will be returning to action after a year-plus absence and he has not put a winning streak together in over two years. Fernandes is a huge threat when the fight hits the ground, Fernandes will ground Belingon and he submits him in the second to keep the belt.

Co-Main Event

One Championships Featherweight Division Fight

Li Kai Wen (4-2-0) vs. Yang Sen (2-0-0)

Wen is currently undefeated under the One Championships banner, last defeating Nathan Ng at One Championships 33. Sen won the featherweight tournament at One Championships 34, defeating Zhang Jia Cai in the finals. Wen has only seen one of his six career bouts go past the second round and he is also a veteran of the Chinese Kung Fu Championships promotion. Sen’s only bouts as a pro came in tournament competition and this will be his first non-tournament bout as a pro. Sen will want to put the fight on the ground, but Wen will use his striking to finish him via TKO in the first round.

One Championships Featherweight Division Fight

Toni “Dynamite” Tauru (10-2-1) vs. Muin “Tajik” Gafurov (9-0-0)

Tauru is currently winless in One Championships and he is a former Cage Warriors Fighting Championships Bantamweight Champion. Gafurov is currently undefeated as a pro and only one of his nine career fights went past the opening round. The majority of this contest should be contested on the ground, which is where Tauru submits Gafurov in the third round.

One Championships Flyweight Division Fight

Roy Doliguez (6-2-0) vs. Asuka “Riku Shibuya” Mikami (12-3-2)

Doliguez will be competing for the first time since losing a flyweight title bout to Dejdamrong Sor Amnuaysirichoke at One Championships 27. Mikami has one just one of two in One Championships, with that lone win coming over Eugene Toquero at One Championships 32. Mikami will want to keep the fight standing to get the win, but Doliguez will keep him grounded on route to a decision win.

One Championships Bantamweight Division Fight

Ming Yen “Sam” Sung (4-1-0) vs. Su “The Terminator” Noto (3-1-0)

Sung is currently undefeated in One Championships, last defeating Radeem Rahman by decision at One FC 20. Noto will be looking to build on the momentum of his first One Championships victory, which came over Mario Satya Wirawan at One Championships 31. Sung is a great fighter as the bout hits the ground, he grounds Noto and submits him in the opening round.

One Championships Changsha Bantamweight Tournament Reserve Fight

Zhou Biao (0-0-0) vs. Tang Da Fen (0-0-0)

Biao will be making his professional MMA debut in this fight and the fighter has no amateur experience to speak of. Fen will also be making his professional MMA debut in this fight and he has no amateur experience either. This is a pick ‘em if there ever was one on this card, but I will make a random pick and go with Biao in this one.

One Championships Changsha Bantamweight Tournament Semi-Finals

Wu Ting Shen (0-0-0) vs. “The Southern Eagle” Ma Hao Bin (0-0-0)

Shen will be making his professional MMA debut in this fight and he has no amateur experience to speak of. Bin will also be making his professional MMA debut in this fight and he has never competed as an amateur either. We have another pick ‘em in this one as it seems to be the theme for the tournament, Bin takes the win here.

One Championships Changsha Bantamweight Tournament Semi-Finals

Cai Chang Bo (0-0-0) vs. Bu Huo You Xia (0-0-0)

Bo will be making his professional MMA debut in this fight and he has no amateur experience to speak of. Xia will also be making his professional MMA debut in this fight and he has never competed as an amateur either. We have another pick ‘em in this one as it seems to be the theme for the tournament, Xia nabs the win here.
