WORLD SERIES OF FIGHTING 28 PREVIEW & PREDICTIONS

By David Tees on 2/20/2016 1:19 PM

As we near the end of our long weekend of MMA action, we will get to see a loaded World Series Of Fighting 28 card on Saturday Night. The event will be headlined by a bantamweight title fight as Marlon Moraes defends against Joseph Barajas. Also, Timur Valiev faces Chris Gutierrez and TUF alumni Jamie Yager returns to action after a three year absence.

Main Card

Main Event

WSOF Bantamweight Title Fight

Marlon Moraes (15-4-1) (Champion) vs. Joseph Barajas (12-1-0)

Moraes will be making the fourth defense of his championship, last defending it against Sheymon da Silva Moraes at the WSOF 22. Barajas is currently undefeated in WSOF competition, having defeated Erik Villalobos at the WSOF 25. Moraes will enter the fight riding a ten fight winning streak and he has not suffered a defeat in just under five years. Barajas will enter the fight on a two fight winning streak and he is a veteran of the Xplode Fight Series promotion. Barajas is a talented fighter, but he is nowhere near the level of skill taht Moraes is at and Moraes decisions him to keep the title.

Co-Main Event

WSOF Bantamweight Division Fight

Chris “El Guapo” Gutierrez (8-1-1) vs. “Lucky” Timur Valiev (10-1-0)

Gutierrez will be making his WSOF debut in this fight and he is the current Sugar Creek Showdown Bantamweight Champion. Valiev is currently undefeated in WSOF competition, including a win over Bellator MMA veteran Ed West. Gutierrez will enter the fight riding a six fight winning streak and he has also competed in Bellator MMA. Valiev has not suffered a defeat as a pro in just under six years, as his lone loss came to Olle Raberg at World Ultimate Full Combat 16. These are two competitors who will want to duke it out on the feet, but valiev will mix up his striking more to get a decision.

WSOF Welterweight Division Fight

Danny “The Animal” McWilliams (13-32-0) vs. Jamie “The Chosyn 1” Yager (6-4-0)

McWilliams has only won just one of his last seven fights and this fight will mark his official WSOF debut. Yager will be returning to action after a three year absence and he was a cast member of the UFC Ultimate Fighter 11. McWilliams may be the worst fighter to ever compete in the WSOF, Yager finishes him with strikes in the first to make a successful MMA return.

WSOF Welterweight Division Fight

Ozzie “The Outlaw” Alvarez (6-3-0) vs. Andrew “The” Ramm (4-3-0)

Alvarez will be making his WSOF debut in this fight and he is a veteran of the Fight Club OC promotion. Ramm will be making his WSOF debut as well and he had a very busy 2015, winning two of four fights that year. This is a classic striker versus grappler encounter, but it will be the grappler in Ramm tapping Alvarez in the second round.

Preliminary Card

Chris Saunders over Darren Smith

Albert Morales over Anthony Paredes

Steve Ramirez over Kyle Estrada

Garrick Evans over Isaias Alvarado

Heinrich Wassmer over Keenan Lewis

Jalin Turner over Eric Steans

Fard Muhammad over Mike Kubeska
