UFC FIGHT NIGHT 83 PREVIEW & PREDICTIONS

By David Tees on 2/21/2016 10:09 AM

Capping off an extraordinary four days of MMA action will be a card from the world’s biggest MMA promotion, the Ultimate Fighting Championships. UFC Fight Night 83 will be headlined by the welterweight division debut on Donald Cerrone, who faces Alex Oliveira. Also, Roan Carneiro faces Derek Brunson and Dennis Bermudez looks to get back on track after some losses.

Main Card

Main Event

UFC Welterweight Division Fight

Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone (28-7-0-1NC) vs. Alex “Cowboy” Oliveira (13-3-1-1NC)

Cerrone will be making his welterweight division debut in this fight after spending his entire ten year MMA career at lightweight. Oliveira is a late replacement in this fight, but he does enter the fight on the strength of a three fight winning streak. Cerrone has won eight of his last nine fights and that lone loss came to current UFC Lightweight Champion Rafael Dos Anjos. Oliveira has competed both as a lightweight and wleterweight in the UFC, but he is undefeated as a welterweight. Oliveira will use his range to keep things interesting for awhile, but Cerroone eventually ground and submits him for a successful divisional debut.

Co-Main Event

UFC Middleweight Division Fight

Derek Brunson (14-3-0) vs. Roan “Jucao” Carneiro (20-9-0)

Brunson will enter the fight riding a three fight winning streak, most notably defeating Lorenz Larkin at UFC 177. Carneiro is currently undefeated in his second UFC run, having defeated Mark Munoz by submission at UFC 184. Brunson has already earned five victories under the UFC banner, with three of them coming over TUF alumni. Carneiro earned his way back to the UFC after winning a one night tournament in Battlegrounds MMA, defeating Brock Larson in the finals. Brunson will want to avoid the ground at all costs here, he will mostly do that and use his striking on route to a decision win.

UFC Catchweight Division Fight

Cody “No Love” Garbrandt (7-0-0) vs. Augusto “Tanquinho” Mendes (5-0-0)

Garbrandt has already achieved two victories under the UFC banner, most notably defeating Marcus Brimage at UFC 182. Mendes will be making his UFC debut in this fight and he is a veteran of the Legacy Fighting Championships promotion. If Mendes was not a last secodn replacement, he would get the win, but Garbrandt overwhelms him with strikes to get the first round finish.

UFC Featherweight Division Fight

Dennis “The Menace” Bermudez (14-5-0) vs. Tatsuya “Crusher” Kawajiri (35-8-2)

Bermudez will enter the fight riding a two fight losing streak and he has not won a bout in just over a full year. Kawajiri has won three of four fights under the UFC banner, most notably defeating Dennis Siver at UFC Fight Night: Jedrzejczyk vs. Penne. Bermudez is susceptible to an opponents wrestling game and Kawajiri grounds him on route to a decision win.

UFC Middleweight Division Fight

Chris Camozzi (22-10-0) vs. Joe “Diesel” Riggs (41-16-0-1NC)

Camozzi has won just one of his last six UFC bouts, with that lone victory coming over Tom WAtson at UFC Fight Night: Teixeira vs. St. Preux. Riggs has just won one of three fights in his most recent UFC run and he was the only winner of the Bellator MMA: Fight Master reality show. Camozzi has a strong wrestling game and he uses that to ground Riggs on route to a decision victory in this one.

UFC Lightweight Division Fight

“Shaolin” Shane Campbell (12-3-0) vs. “The” James Krause (22-7-0)

Campbell will be looking to build on the momentum of his first UFC win, which came over Elias Silverio at UFC Fight Night: Holloway vs. Oliveira. Krause has just won one of his last three under the UFC banner and he has yet to put a win streak together in the promotion. Campbell will want to catch Krause with his striking, but Krause grounds and submits Campbell in the second.

Oluwale Bamgbose over Daniel Sarafian

Anthony Smith over Leonardo Augusto Leleco

Jonavin Webb over Nathan Coy

Marion Reneau over Ashlee Evans-Smith
