LEGACY FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIPS 56 PREVIEW & PREDICTIONS

By David Tees on 6/23/2016 9:45 PM

This may be the biggest Friday Night ever in MMA history with three big events taking place on that night alone. The second of those events in Legacy FC 56, which is headlined by Manny Vazquez defending the bantamweight title against Steven Peterson. Also, Jason Sampson faces Ryan Hollis and UFC veteran Edwin Figueroa returns to action.

Main Event

Legacy FC Bantamweight Title Fight

Manny Vazquez (9-1-0) (Champion) vs. Steven “Ocho” Peterson (13-4-0)

Vazquez will be making the first defense of his championship, which he won by defeating Ricardo Lucas Ramos at Legacy FC 51. Peterson will enter the fight on a five fight winning streak and he is the current Xtreme Knockouts Bantamweight Champion. The lone loss in the career of Vazquez came just about a year ago to Chris Dunn via decision at Turf Wars 27. Peterson engaged in a two fight series with UFC veteran Matt Hobar, he won one of the two fights. Peterson is far better at mixing it up when compared to Vazquez, Peterson uses his strikes to set up a second round submission to win the gold.

Co-Main Event

Legacy FC Bantamweight Division Fight

Jason “Wild Thing” Sampson (13-1-0) vs. Ryan “Riptide” Hollis (11-8-0)

Sampson will enter the fight riding a five fight winning streak, which includes wins in both Legacy FC and Bellator MMA. Hollis has only won just two of his last six fights and he has not won a bout in Legacy FC in well over a year. Sampson has not suffered a defeat in over five years now and he does hold a win over UFC veteran Erik Perez. Hollis is the current Freestyle Cage Fighting Bantamweight Champion, he has successfully defended the belt once already. Hollis seems to crumble when he is opposite top flight competition, Sampson smashes him and gets the first round submission.

Legacy FC Bantamweight Division Fight

Edwin “El Feroz” Figueroa (9-4-0) vs. Levi Mowles (3-0-0)

Figueroa is a UFC veteran who is returning to action after a three year layoff and he has not earned a win in over four years. Mowles has only competed one time per year since debuting in 2014, but he has won two fights in Legacy FC. Figueroa may not be a UFC caliber competitor any more, but his striking game will carry him to a decision win here.

Legacy FC Featherweight Division Fight

Cody “The Crow” Walker (6-3-0) vs. JC Cottrell (16-3-0)

Walker will be looking to build on the momentum of his first Legacy FC win, which came over Kalvin Hackney at Legacy FC 49. Cottrell will enter the fight riding a five fight winning streak and he is the current Battlegrounds MMA Featherweight Champion. Cottrell is one of the more underrated submission artists in MMA right now, he taps Walker in the first round.

Legacy FC Welterweight Division Fight

Sean “Razorback” Holden (4-1-0) vs. Bilal Williams (6-2-0)

Holden has won two of three fights in Legacy FC and he will be entering this fight on a two fight winning streak. Williams will enter the fight on a three fight winning streak and this will be the third straight Legacy FC event he fights on. Holden has a quality wrestling game, but Williams outclasses him with strikes on route to a decision win.

Legacy FC Featherweight Division Fight

Eliazar Rodriguez (8-5-0) vs. Miles Johns (2-0-0)

Rodriguez has rotated wins and losses in his last six fights and he is currently winless in Legacy FC competition. Johns will be making his Legacy FC debut in this fight and he is a veteran of the Xtreme Knockouts promotion. Rodriguez has a huge experience advantage in this fight, he uses his ground game to get a decision win.
