UFC FIGHT NIGHT 90 PREVIEW & PREDICTIONS

By David Tees on 7/5/2016 4:48 PM

Kicking off what will arguably be the biggest weekend in UFC history will be the UFC Fight Pass exclusive UFC Fight Night 90 card. The event will be headlined by a lightweight title bout as Rafael Dos Anjos defends against Eddie Alvarez. Also, Derrick Lewis faces Roy Nelson, plus Alan Jouban and Joseph Duffy are in action.

Main Card

Main Event

UFC Lightweight Title Fight

Rafael Dos Anjos (25-7-0) (Champion) vs. Eddie Alvarez (27-4-0)

Dos Anjos will be making the second defense of his championship, last defending it against Donald Cerrone at UFC On Fox 17. Alvarez will enter the fight riding a two fight winning streak, with his last win coming over former lightweight champion Anthony Pettis. Dos Anjos will enter the fight on a five fight winning streak and he has not suffered a defeat in well over two years. Alvarez is a former two time Bellator MMA Lightweight Champion and if he wins the UFC Lightweight Title, will become the first fighter to hold the lightweight belt in both promotions. Alvarez has a great boxing game and that will keep things interesting for a little while, but Dos Anjos will use his wrestling game to gain an advantage and earn a close decision win.

Co-Main Event

UFC Heavyweight Division Fight

Derrick “The Black Beast” Lewis (15-4-0-1NC) vs. Roy “Big Country” Nelson (21-12-0)

Lewis will enter the fight riding a three fight winning streak, last defeating Gabriel Gonzaga at UFC Fight Night: Rothwell vs. Dos Santos. Nelson has won just one of his last four under the UFC banner, with that lone win coming over Jared Rosholt at UFC Fight Night: Hendricks vs. Thompson. Lewis has already competed a total of eight times in the UFC and none of those fights have gone to the judge’s scorecards. Nelson only has two wins in the last three years and he has not put a winning streak together in well over three years as well. This fight is going to be a slugfest for as long as it lasts, but it will be Lewis knocking out Nelson in the first.

UFC Welterweight Division Fight

Alan “Brahma” Jouban (13-4-0) vs. Belal “Remember The Name” Muhammad (9-0-0)

Jouban has won three of his last four fights under the UFC banner, most notably defeating Matt Dwyer at UFC Fight Night: Mir vs. Duffee. Muhammad will be making his UFC debut in this fight and he is a former Titan Fighting Championships Welterweight Champion. Jouban seemingly has trouble with fighters who pressure him throughout the fight, Muhammad does that and he finishes Jouban with strikes in the third.

UFC Lightweight Division Fight

Mitch “Danger Zone” Clarke (11-3-0) vs. “Irish” Joe Duffy (14-2-0)

Clarke has won two of his last three under the UFC banner and he will be returning to action after a year-plus layoff. Duffy will be looking to rebound from his first loss in UFC competition, which came to Dustin Poirier at UFC 195. These are two fighters with a surprisingly good ground game, Duffy uses his superior striking to set up the submission for a second round finish.

Pedro Munhoz over Russell Doane
