BISPING ON JEDRZEJCZYK DEFEATING GADELHA: “JOANNA TURNED HER INTO A HUMAN PUNCHING BAG.”

Cruz on Gadelha’s mistake: “Claudia was hoping to grind her and wear her out. But she wasn’t able to.”

Los Angeles – The following quotes and videos are from tonight’s FS1 THE ULTIMATE FIGHTER FINALE POSTFIGHT SHOW on FS1 hosted by Jay Glazer, with Michael Bisping and Dominick Cruz providing analysis. Karyn Bryant conducted interviews.

FOX UFC analyst Dominick Cruz on how Joanna Jedrzejczyk defeated Claudia Gadelha: “Joanna was landing the crisper combinations. This was a classic striker vs. grappler matchup, like we used to see in the UFC. But the striker Joanna was only defending the takedowns by Claudia, but not over exerting her energy during them. Claudia was working so hard on the takedowns that she was getting lactic acid buildup in her muscles and that gets you tired. Claudia was hoping to grind her and wear her out. But she wasn’t able to. This proves everyone has their hands full with Joanna.”

FOX UFC analyst Michael Bisping on what Gadelha did wrong: “Claudia started strong and fast, but it’s a hard way to fight. The more she wrestled, the more tired she got and the better Joanna got. Joanna started to pepper Claudia’s body and that just got her more tired. Joanna would move around, reset after her striking, and that kept Claudia guessing all night. Joanna turned her into a human punching bag in the later rounds.”

Cruz on what Gadelha should have done differently: “You have to be careful how much energy you use. Understand if the grappling isn’t working, then you reset, shake out the muscles and go at it again. She will learn from this. She should not explode on the wrestling so much in the early rounds.”

Joanna J?drzejczyk on winning the title: “I’m very happy, I expected a tough fight. I did my job. I knew she was going to come out strong. I waited for my chance.”

J?drzejczyk on what she thought Gadelha would do in the fight: “We knew she’d be strong in the first two rounds. She couldn’t do anything on the ground and I did my job.”

UFC president Dana White on J?drzejczyk vs. Gadelha: “This was a sick fight. It was everything that I thought it would be. Joanna’s striking is nasty. She has the unbelievable killer instinct. If she senses her opponent is on the ropes, she steps on the gas tank. Claudia has heart. She made it five rounds. It was a great fight.”

White on Anderson Silva stepping in to fight Daniel Cormier: “Joe Silva is calling him Anderson ‘the savior’ Silva now. In this sport, when the opportunity pops up, you’re crazy not to take it. Michael Bisping said it best when he faced Luke Rockhold again: ‘no two fights are the same.’ Anything is possible. DC has been through a nightmare this week. Hats off to DC, others would have broken and not taken the fight.”

White on Miesha Tate headlining UFC 200: “Women headlined tonight and tomorrow night - the women are strong. I know, I’m the guy who said women would never be in the UFC and now, here we are, and women are headlining this fight and UFC 200.”

Bisping on how Andrew Sanchez defeated Khalil Rountree: “Unlike Claudia, Sanchez was able to put wrestling to good use. Rountree got some good shots in early, but it was the wrestling that won it. Sanchez would shoot in from multiple angles and get the body lock. He did a fantastic job of smothering him and not letting Rountree breathe.”

Cruz on how Tatiana Suarez beat Amanda Cooper: “Cooper was looking for the knockout, but Suarez knew she was going to be able to wrestle. She got the takedown and started grinding it out. Cooper almost got her in an arm bar, but Suarez got out and she got top position, used grappling, ground-and-pound and got the D’arce choke at the end in the transition. That was a beautiful win for Suarez. She’s a threat to the division.”

Tatiana Suarez on winning The Ultimate Fighter: “This is what I said I was going to do. It was great having all my supporters here. I’m just happy to have these people behind me.”

Suarez on if the arm bar was close: “My arm was extended, but it wasn’t hurting. I’d let my arm break before I gave in. She was going to have to kill me before I’d give in.”
