LEGACY FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIPS 58 PREVIEW & PREDICTIONS

By David Tees on 7/20/2016 3:37 PM

There are three big MMA events that will be taking place this weekend and everything kicks off with Legacy FC 58. The event will see a brand new light heavyweight champion crowned as Robert Drysdale takes on Ryan Spann. Also, Rey Trujillo takes on Josh Quayhagen and BJJ star Mackenzie Dern makes her professional MMA debut.

Main Card

Main Event

Legacy FC Light Heavyweight Title Decision Fight

Robert Drysdale (6-0-0-1NC) vs. Ryan “Superman” Spann (9-2-0)

Drysdale will be returning to Legacy FC after a disastrous one fight run in the UFC, where his win over Keith Berish at the UFC Ultimate Fighter 19 Finale was overturned after a failed drug test. Spann has won two of three under the Legacy FC banner and he once challenged for the Legacy FC Middleweight Title. Drysdale has been competing as a professional MMA fighter for six years now and none of his fights went past the first round. Spann is a fighter who is also known for finishing fights, with eight of his elevn fights ending in the opening round. Spann is a capable fighter on the ground, but Drysdale is on a whole different level and he submits Spann in the first to win the title.

Co-Main Event

Legacy FC Lightweight Division Fight

Rey “The Warrior” Trujillo (19-16-0) vs. Josh “Quay” Quayhagen (8-5-0)

Trujillo has only won just one of his last three fights and he is a former Legacy FC Lightweight Champion. Quayhagen has only won just one of his last five fights and he has not earned a victory in over a year. Trujillo is one of the longest tenured fighters in all of Legacy FC, having fought fourteen times in the promotion. Quayhagen is also a veteran of Bellator MMA, where he defeated kickboxing great Cosmo Alexandre. This fight is essentially a battle to stay relevant, but it will be Trujillo using his striking game to notch a decision win.

Legacy FC Women’s Strawweight Division Fight

Kenia Rosas (0-0-0) vs. Mackenzie Dern (0-0-0)

Rosas will be making her professional MMA debut in this fight, but she did win two of three fights as an amateur. Dern will also be making her professional MMA debut in this fight, but she is one of the best female BJJ competitors of the last decade. Rosas may have an amateur MMA experience advantage, but that matters little as Dern easily submits her in the first round.

Legacy FC Bantamweight Division Fight

Ryan “Riptide” Hollis (11-9-0) vs. Cody “Wolverine” Williams (9-6-0)

Hollis has only won just one of his last four fights and this will be his fifth fight he will be competing in this year. Williams has rotated wins and losses in his last five fights and he once challenged for the Hero FC Bantamweight Title. Hollis is one of the most active fighters in MMA today, but Williams is better at mixing up the strikes and the ground game, Williams gets a close decision win.

Legacy FC Lightweight Division Fight

Matthew Mooney (4-1-0) vs. Gage “The Dominator” Duhon (5-2-0)

Mooney is currently undefeated in Legacy FC competition, having defeated JC Pennington at Legacy FC 52. Duhon has only won just one of his last three fights and one of those losses came to UFC veteran Sage Northcutt. These are two fighters who are becoming good at the ground game, Duhon recovers from a slump to get a close decision win.

Legacy FC Middleweight Division Fight

Clovis “CJ” Hancock (2-0-0) vs. Brendan Allen (3-1-0)

Hancock is currently undefeated as a professional MMA fighter, which includes wins in Bellator MMA and Legacy FC. Allen is currently winless in Legacy FC competition, dropping a bout to Trevin Giles at Legacy FC 52. These are two fighters who are known for finishing fights, but it will be Hancock getting a late submission to stay undefeated.
