TITAN FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIPS 40 PREVIEW & PREDICTIONS

Kicking off another big weekend of MMA action will be a loaded Titan Fighting Championships 40 card, with two title fights in the headlining positions. That is because Gesias Cavalcante defends the lightweight title against Freddy Assuncao and Jose Torres faces Abdiel Velazquez for the vacant flyweight title. Also, top talents like Desmond Green, Derrick Mehmen, Ron Stallings and Alexis Vila are all stepping into the cage.

Main Event

Titan FC Lightweight Title Fight

Gesias “JZ” Cavalcante (20-8-1-2NC) (Champion) vs. Freddy Assuncao (9-1-0)

Cavalcante will be making the first defense of his championship, which he won by defeating UFC veteran Pat Healy at Titan FC 39. Assuncao is currently undefeated in Titan FC competition, which includes a win over WSOF veteran Cody Bollinger. Cavalcante is also coming off of a four fight run in the World Series Of Fighting, where he earned a total of two wins. Assuncao will enter the fight riding an eight fight winning streak, but he will be returning to action after a year-plus layoff. Assuncao has a lot of ground skills, but Cavalcante is better on the feet and on the ground, Cavalcante gets a third round TKO win here.

Co-Main Event

Titan FC Interim Flyweight Title Decision Fight

Jose Torres (2-0-0) vs. Abdiel “The Nightmare” Velazquez (7-2-0)

Torres has spent his entire career thus in Titan FC, where he last defeated Reynaldo Walter Duarte at Titan FC 38. Velazquez is currently undefeated in Titan FC competition, having defeated Alexis Vila at Titan FC 39. Torres also had an amazing run as an amateur MMA fighter, going undefeated with a total of eight wins. Velazquez also competed in the House Of Fame MMA promotion, where he earned a total of three wins in the promotion. The majority of this fight should be contested on the ground, which is where Torres gets the decision win and the title.

Titan FC Featherweight Division Fight

Desmond “The Predator” Green (17-5-0) vs. James Freeman (5-0-0)

Green is a former Titan FC Featherweight Champion and he will be entering this fight while on a two fight winning streak. Freeman will be making his Titan FC debut in this fight and none of his fights have gone past the opening round. Freeeman has a great striking game and Green has a great wrestling game, Green gets the decision win here.

Titan FC Bantamweight Division Fight

Anderson “Berinja” Dos Santos (14-3-0) vs. Andrew “The Beast” Whitney (13-4-0)

Dos Santos is currently undefeated in Titan FC competition, having defeated Ricky Simon at Titan FC 37. Whitney is currently on his third run in the Titan FC promotion, where he has already earned a total of two victories. These are two fighters who are well skilled wherever the fight winds up, but it will be Dos Santos getting a close decision win.

Titan FC Heavyweight Division Fight

Derrick “The Caveman” Mehmen (19-7-0) vs. DJ “The Protege” Linderman (19-11-0)

Mehmen will be making his Titan FC debut in this fight and he once challenged for the World Series Of Fighting Heavyweight Title. Linderman will be returning to Titan FC for the first time in just over two years and he is the current Fight Time MMA Heavyweight Champion. Linderman is an undersized heavyweight at best and Mehmen is one of the better heavyweight strikers, Mehmen gets the first round finish here.

Titan FC Welterweight Division Fight

Sabah “The Punisher” Homasi (10-5-0) vs. Jorge “Macaco” Patino (38-18-2-1NC)

Homasi is currently undefeated in Titan FC competition, having defeated Vitor Regis Eustaquio at Titan FC 39. Patino will be making his Titan FC debut in this fight and he will be doing so while on a three fight losing streak. This should be nothing short of a slugfest for as long as the bouts lasts, but it will be Homasi finishing Patino with strikes in the first.

Titan FC Middleweight Division Fight

Ron “The Choir Boy” Stallings (13-8-0-1NC) vs. Rashaun Spencer (8-8-0)

Stallings will be fighting for the first time since his UFC release, which came after a loss to Joe Riggs via disqualification at UFC 191. Spencer will be making his Titan FC debut in this fight and he will be doing so while on a three fight winning streak. Stalling has a good ground game and a better striking game, Stallings finishes Spencer with strikes in the first.

Titan FC Flyweight Division Fight

Alexis “The Exorcist” Vila (14-7-0) vs. Jorge Calvo (8-0-0)

Vila will enter the fight riding a three fight losing streak and he has not earned a victory in well over a full year. Calvo will be making his Titan FC debut in this fight and he has spent his entire career until this point fighting in Calvo Promotions. Vila is starting to get up there in years, Calvo grounds and grinds out a decision win to stay undefeated.

Titan FC Middleweight Division Fight

Miguel Baeza (0-0-0) vs. Emre Orun (0-0-0)

Baeza will be making his professional MMA debut in this fight and he did go undefeated as an amateur fighter. Orun will also be making his professional MMA debut in this fight, but he went winless as an amateur. Baeza had a far better run as an amateur when compared to Orun, Baeza gets a decision win to start off his pro career.
