UFC 202 PREVIEW & PREDICTIONS

By David Tees on 8/19/2016 1:37 PM

One of the biggest rematches is taking place this Saturday Night as the Ultimate Fighting Championships presents UFC 202. The event will be headlined by UFC Featherweight Champion Conor McGregor looking for revenge against Nate Diaz. Also, Anthony Johnson faces Glover Teixeira and Donald Cerrone looks to keep his welterweight division run going.

Main Card

Main Event

UFC Welterweight Division Fight

“The Notorious” Conor McGregor (19-3-0) (UFC Featherweight Champion) vs. Nate Diaz (19-10-0)

McGregor will be looking for revenge in this fight, as he was submitted in the second round of his first bout with Nate Diaz at UFC 196. Diaz has won three of his last four heading into this fight, with Michael Johnson and Gray Maynard being the other two fighters he defeated. McGregor has yet to actually defend the UFC Featherweight Title, a title he won by defeating Jose Aldo at UFC 194. Diaz has also competed at lightweight and featherweight in the UFC, once challenging then champion Ben Henderson for the lightweight championship. Diaz defeated McGregor after taking the fight on less than two weeks notice at UFC 196, Diaz has a ground game that McGregor is light years behind, Diaz taps McGregor in the third round.

Co-Main Event

UFC Light Heavyweight Division Fight

Anthony “Rumble” Johnson (21-5-0) vs. Glover Teixeira (25-4-0)

Johnson has won five of six fights in his second UFC run, with that lone loss coming to current UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier. Teixeira will enter the fight riding a three fight winning streak and he has not suffered a defeat in nearly two years. Johnson has only seen one of his six fights go the distance since his UFC return, that fight was against Phil Davis at UFC 172. Teixeira is coming off of a win over former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Rashad Evans, that fight headlined UFC On Fox 19. Johnson is a dangerous fighter as long as the fight is on the feet, Teixeira eats some shots before grounding and submitting Johnson in the second.

UFC Welterweight Division Fight

Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone (30-7-0-1NC) vs. Rick “The Horror” Story (19-8-0)

Cerrone has been undefeated since moving up to the welterweight division, last defeating Patrick Cote at UFC Fight Night: MacDonald vs. Thompson. Story will enter the fight riding a three fight winning streak and this will be his first pay-per-view fight in over two years. Story will use his wrestling to neutralize Cerrone, but Cerrone catches him late in the third for the shock submission win.

UFC Welterweight Division Fight

Hyun Gyu “The Ace” Lim (13-5-1) vs. Mike Perry (6-0-0)

Lim has won just one of his last three entering this fight and this will be his first professional MMA fight in well over a year. Perry will be making his UFC debut in this fight and none of his fights as a pro went past the second round. This fight should be a slugfest for as long as it lasts, but it will be Lim getting the first round TKO finish.

UFC Welterweight Division Fight

Sabah “The Punisher” Homasi (11-5-0) vs. Tim “The Dirty Bird” Means (25-7-1)

Homasi will be making his UFC debut in this fight, but he is a veteran of Bellator MMA and the Titan Fighting Championships. Means has won five of his last six under the UFC banner and he is returning from a suspension for a failed drug test. Homasi has a great striking game, but Means will drag him to the ground and submit him in the opening round.
