On his podcast, Bischoff On Wrestling Overrun, Eric Bischoff was asked why he fired Steve Austin, who later went on to become one of the primary reasons that WWF turned the tables and eventually put WCW out of business. Bischoff was in charge of WCW at the time of the firing.
When asked if he fired Austin because he didn't feel that the man would be a draw for WCW Bischoff responded, "I fired Steve because he was perennially injured and he had a bad attitude and he blew me off on the phone. It had nothing to do with whether or not I thought he could make money. But that made good narrative."
