STIPE MIOCIC VS. DANIEL CORMIER: UFC 226 PREVIEW AND ODDS

By Jason Kendall on 4/7/2018 2:01 PM

Arguably the biggest fight in UFC history, heavyweight champ Stipe Miocic will face light heavyweight champ Daniel Cormier to see who the baddest man on the planet is. It is the first time in the history of the UFC that the two champions from the two top divisions have faced each other which adds an extra layer of excitement.

It should be no surprise that Miocic is the bookies' favorites priced at -190 with most bookies. DC is a big underdog at +155 which is sure to tempt many to back the man who has only ever been defeated by his arch-rival Jon Jones. If you are a first-time bettor, check the offers here.

UFC 226 takes place on the 7th of July in Las Vegas and fans will be hoping that both manage to make it through their camps without sustaining any injuries. MMA fans around the world are still getting over the canceled Khabib vs Ferguson fight for the four-time, so hopefully, the two can make it to the octagon without any problems. At least at heavyweight DC will not need a magic towel to make weight.

Miocic rewrote the record books in his last fight against Francis Ngannou by being the first heavyweight in history to defend the belt on three consecutive occasions. The Cleveland firefighter has won six-fight in a row with five first-round KOs. He has not been given as much credit as he deserves for his achievements but by defeating DC it will make him the best ever heavyweight in the UFC's history and he will be determined to show fans once again why he is the best.

Stipe is not going to have it all his own way though as even though DC is moving up in weight to heavyweight he is no stranger to the division. Cormier has a perfect record at heavyweight winning 13 fights without suffering a loss. He has beaten easily everyone in his division apart from Jon Jones but he may be able to secure a rematch if he beats Stipe and Jones PED ban expires.

If DC can get the win he is so desperate to get to secure his name as one of the best of all time he will be the only fighter apart from the Notorious Conor McGregor to hold consecutively two belts at the same time. It would be a great end to Cormier's career as he is expected to retire by the end of the year. One thing is for sure that he would love one more chance at beating his nemesis Jones before he finally hands his gloves up for good.

2018 could be the year of the heavyweight with the expected return of both Brock Lesnar and Jon Jones. These are the types of fights crave for and if we are lucky we could see the 4 baddest men on planet earth fight it out to see who is the best of all time.
