By Kendall Jenkins on 4/4/2019 7:28 AM

He is nicknamed the greatest tennis player in history! And he bears a record of 20 Grand Slam Single titles. Who is this pro player of Tennis? The name is no mystery to anyone fond of the sport. It’s Federer… Roger Federer!

Roger Federer was born in Basel, Switzerland in 1981. He was among the many top junior tennis players of the country by the age of 11. But soon after, he turned to be a professional player and emerged with his victory at Wimbledon in 2003. Switzerland never saw one of its people win a Grand Slam Title. Roger was here to be the first Swiss man to lift up the grand title! For that, he will always be remembered! It was only in 2017, that he won his eighth title, setting a milestone in the tennis world!

Since an early age, he took interest in sports and especially, Tennis. He practised and aced his skill in the sport to become among the Top 3 Junior Tennis Players of Switzerland! Way to go! Roger often stated that he greatly admired Boriz Becker and Stefan Edberg in his young age. He declared that he used to practice imitating his idols. And it's not only the behaviours that were imitated. The player managed to perfect his skills as well!

Roger Federer played in many tournaments from 14 to 16 years. In 1998, he won the Junior Wimbledon title, marking his entry as a pro! They were many to come from corners of the world to challenge the boy that was just 20 during the Wimbledon of 2001. But he was not to be discouraged. He caused a sensation by knocking out the reigning single champions including Pete Sampras. Only two years later, the first Swiss Man to win the Grand Slam Title was found!

His legacy as a proud Grand Slam title holder met with various tournaments and games that dared to check if he truly deserves the title. Yet, most challengers failed to do so! In fact, they ended giving him more fame. He held a number one rank from 2004 to 2008 and was named the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year three times in a row!

But there had to be one opponent that will make him tumble down from his throne. It was in 2008 when the clash between Federer and rival Rafael Nadal left Roger… defeated. In the same year, he fell before Novak Djokovic, a young star at the Australian Open. That was the moment… when he lost the crown and moved to number two rank.

He rose from the ashes and his career escalated once again when he secured the seventh Wimbledon by defeating Andy Murray in 2012. He was back to the number one spot! 2012 till 2018 was filled with ups and down for the tennis player, but he managed to emerge with 20 Grand Slam Titles in total.

Roger Federer is married to the former tennis player, Mirka Vavrinec. They met at the Summer Olympics of 2000 where they carried their relationship for nine years. In the end, they tied the knot amongst cheering families and friends in 2009. The next year, the coupled welcome their first children. Yes, children! They got twins which were named Myla and Charlene. Merely five years later, they would become parents again with the second set of twins, two boys, that go by the name, Leo and Lenny.
