Hello all and welcome to another edition of the Mouth’s Feature. I just want to start with a note on WWE in Australia, I think that them coming here regularly is working out great for them as of recent I have seen more and more WWE shirts being worn out in public and DVD’s have been sold out. This column is going to have a look at the new talent coming in, Kurt Angles release and the MVP of the company at the moment as well as other things that are happening.
I will start with the big news of the week and that is the news of Kurt Angle receiving an early release from his contract to handle his “personal†issues. Now that is a big loss to the company as Kurt Angle is an incredible and strives in every match to be number one. But recently Kurt has been working a bit too much to wow the crowd and has suffered potential career ending injuries. So in my opinion it is in the best interest of both parties that Kurt Angle takes some time off to rest his injuries. And I have no doubt that somewhere down the line Kurt Angle will again strap on the wrestling boots and put in more show stealing performances.
I really did think Batista would be a saving grace for the Smackdown brand but his return has really not succeeded as much as I thought it would. Smackdown does continue to suck as a whole thanks to all the ridiculous storylines and characters. Whilst there are still some enjoyable moments on Smackdown such as King Booker, Finlay vs. Lashley and apparently they are paying attention to the tag team division, but we’ll have to wait to see how long that lasts won’t we.
What’s with the new Smackdown superstars being called the “new talent initiative†anyway? It really is just a quick fix solution because Smackdown is really struggling. James & Stevens have shown that they can go quite well and could potentially be tag team champs. From what I heard about Terkay I really expected him to be better in the ring than what he has show as of late. Elijah Burke has shown to be quite entertaining. And Montel Vontavious Porter has shown amazing charisma in the weeks that he has been here. As long as he doesn’t show woeful in ring talent I seriously think this guy could become a star for years to come in the WWE.
I am tired of everyone referring to John Cena as the next Steve Austin. Seriously there was only one Steve Austin and there should be. John Cena should be his own character and not Stone Cold John Cena. I don’t want to see John Cena ripping off what Austin did 7 years ago. People shouldn’t be billed as the next anyone. Maybe if the WWE didn’t split up tag teams so early to find the next Shawn Michaels or Bret Hart and just focused on making a great tag team they wouldn’t be in such trouble in the tag team division.
Nice to see Jeff Hardy back. He is always exciting and the fans love him. Here’s hoping he doesn’t receive the same treatment as his brother and can be given some time to shine which he has received so far on his return. His match with Johnny Nitro could be very entertaining if given some time. Umaga has been booked perfectly as the monster. And Estrada is awesome; whilst his match with Kane will be no classic it is nice to see Umaga in a real feud. Please get the McMahon’s off my TV, OK maybe keep Shane but please I have really had enough of Vince McMahon. DX has also worn out already. If it was ever gonna work someone needed to get some real heat on them and that just hasn’t happened. Funny how they tried to outdo Hulk but couldn’t. As much as I don’t like what Hulk has become he is the most popular wrestler ever. Carlito and Orton could have an enjoyable feud but I still really don’t see the need to drag Orton over to Raw. Especially since Smackdown is so low on name value. And now after he has feuded with two non-raw superstars he has dropped to the mid card.
Now onto Edge who is the MVP of the company right now in terms of in ring skills, mic skills and crowd heat. Edge cuts one of the best promos around in the WWE today, performs outstandingly in the ring and is major over with the crowd. Edge is the shining light for me in the WWE today and truly deserves the WWE title. I think Edge deserves to hold onto the title for a couple more months yet and deserves a prominent role in the WWE for a while to come.
That’s it for another edition of the Mouth’s Feature. Please send any feedback as it is appreciated and doesn’t go unnoticed to Mike at the_70s_guy@hotmail.com.
