REPORT: JAILTON ALMEIDA VS. CURTUS BLAYDES REBOOKED FOR UFC 299

By David Tees on 12/12/2023 5:44 PM

A heavyweight division attraction has been rebooked for UFC 299 according to MMA Fighting as #5 Curtis Blaydes faces #7 Jailton Almeida.

Blaydes (17-4-0-1NC) has won three of his last five under the UFC banner, with those wins coming over Jairzinho Rozenstruik, Chris Daukaus and Tom Aspinall. Blaydes was the reason the first attempt at the fight with Almeida was canceled, as Blaydes suffered an injury and was replaced by Derrick Lewis. Blaydes hasn’t picked up a victory in over a year, as his last win came at UFC Fight Night 208 in July of 2022.

Almeida (20-2-0) is undefeated thus far in UFC competition, having defeated Danilo Marques, Parker Porter, Anton Turkalj, Shamil Abdurakhimov, Jairzinho Rozenstruik and Derrick Lewis. Almeida competed on Dana White’s Contender Series, defeating Nasrudin Nasrudinov by second round submission during the 2021 season. Almeida hasn’t been defeated in almost six years, with his last loss coming to Bruno Assis at Shooto Brazil 80 in January of 2018.

UFC 299 takes place on Saturday, March 9 from a location to be announced with Sean O’Malley and Marlon Vera headlining. PWInsiderXtra is providing live coverage of the event, which streams live on ESPN+ pay-per-view.
