OVW TV REPORT

By Ethan Absler on 9/20/2024 12:52 AM

Although most would agree that OVW is still going through a dark time under the regime of Doug Basham and Revolution, there is still one glimmer of hope and euphoria for fans in the form of the new World Heavyweight Champion, Cash Flo.

After being placed in a 3-1 Gauntlet match for the title against AJZ, Tony Gunn, and Dalton McKenzie following Crixus’s shocking relinquishment of the Championship earlier in the night due to injury, Cash Flo overcame the numbers game in an instant classic to regain the OVW Heavyweight Championship for his fourth time.

Basham, promises to address the new champ tonight alongside a lineup of star-studded matches including Hollyhood Haley J vs Angelica Risk, a Tag Team Championship rematch between Tusk N Chains and AJZ and Dalton McKenzie (C), Freya The Slaya vs Tiffany Nieves, and Jamin Olivencia (C) vs Kal Herro for the Rush Division Championship.

Opening: Doug Basham Addresses Cash Flo

After last week’s shocking OVW Heavyweight Championship match, Doug Basham opened the show looking to take care of business.

His first order: Cash Flo is suspended for the week.

His second order: Cash Flo will be forced to face his former tag team partner next week, Mahabali Shera.

Just then, EC3 emerged, only to tell Doug that he was the real leader of Revolution. Despite being a World Champion, the group didn’t take too kindly to EC3’s proclamation which earned him a beat down at the hands of Revolution. Additionally, the group decided to part ways with Will Austin, a short-lived faction member whose match with Dustin Jackson was made official for later that night.

Match 1: Leo Fox vs Tony Gunn

In the first match of the night, Tony Gunn took on Leo Fox with the Revolution member easily gaining the upper hand early. Despite a beautiful Fallaway Slam from Fox, Gunn was able to hit a Reverse DDT and a Killshot to put away Leo Fox.

Result: Tony Gunn DEFEATS Leo Fox

Match 2: Freya The Slaya vs Tiffany Nieves

As this match was part of the Women’s number one contender’s tournament, current champ and Revolution member, JRod watched the bout from the commentary table. La Princessa looked to prove that she still belonged in the Women’s Title picture, but as the match started, Freya used her size and strength to gain an early lead.

Freya The Slaya continued dominating, even hitting a Scissor Kick on Nieves as she hung from the second rope, but La Princessa was able to pick up a sudden victory after reversing Freya’s Vertical Suplex into a roll-up for the three count.

After the match, an angry Freya planted Nieves with a devastating Chokeslam.

Result: Tiffany Nieves DEFEATS Freya The Slaya

Match 3: Beaches N Cream (W/ Crystal White) Vs. Jay Deniro and Tony Evans

In the third match of the night, Beaches N Cream looked to score a big win over one of OVW’s most established tag teams in Deniro and Evans. Lawrence and Omar took control early with a perfect mix of athleticism and chemistry, hitting Evans with a few tag moves before he was able to tag out to Deniro.

The big man dominated Lawrence before missing a leg drop on the apron which allowed Omar to hit a flying Crossbody to the outside to regain control. Beaches N Cream then hit one final tag move, an assisted Powerbomb and Neckbreaker combo, to put Deniro and Evans away in relatively short order.

Result: Beaches N Cream (W/ Crystal White) DEFEAT Jay Deniro and Tony Evans

Match 4: Donovan Cecil and Jack Vaughn Vs. AJZ and Dalton McKenzie (C)

Due to TW3’s absence, Doug Basham called off the much anticipated Tag Team Championship rematch, only for The Veteran Jack Vaughn to emerge from the side door still looking for revenge. With the match saved, both teams brought the fight to each other with all four big men hitting heavy strikes before a German Suplex from AJZ to Cecil shook the ring.

The champs began working like a well-oiled machine, making frequent tags and cutting the ring in half. Just when it looked like McKenzie was going to put Vaughn away with a Powerslam, The Veteran slipped out the back to make a much needed tag. Surprisingly, Cecil took flight, hitting a textbook Suicide Dive to take out his opponents.

From there, it was Vaughn and Mammoth’s turn to work like a well-oiled machine, showing off their own size and power with Bodyslams, Sidewalk Slams, and Big Boots. As Vaughn and Cecil closed in on the win, Basham tossed Cecil head-first into the ring post before hitting Vaugn with one of the Tag team Titles. As expected, Revolution proceeded to bloody The Veteran, even stomping on a chair with his head stuck inside.

Result: Donovan Cecil and Jack Vaughn DEFEAT Dalton McKenzie and AJZ (C) (Via Disqualification)

Match 5: Will Austin Vs. Dustin Jackson

In what promised to be one of the most competitive and thrilling matchups of the night, two of OVW’s brightest stars in Austin and Jackson squared off against one another, both with lots to lose. Jackson took control early with a huge Backbody Drop and beautiful Dropkick, one which some call one of the best in the business. Jackson continued rolling until Austin shoved him off the top rope and into the barricade.

Austin continued, almost putting Jackson away with a jaw-dropping Corkscrew Springboard Crossbody before the ladder kicked out at two. As The Future looked to follow up with a Superplex, Dustin reversed it, hitting a Reverse Superplex of his own to turn the tables. Both men dug deep into their bag of tricks with Austin reversing Jackson’s offense with a Springboard Cutter which failed to put the red-hot star away.

Eventually, Jackson tossed the former Rush Division Champion face first off the top rope before an awe-inspiring Frog Splash put Austin away for the big victory.

Result: Dustin Jackson DEFEATS Will Austin

Match 6: Hollyhood Haley J vs Angelica Risk

As JRod looked on live while Haley J and Risk battled to advance in the Women’s number one contender’s tournament, it was Hollyhood who started the match off in control despite disrespecting Risk in the opening moments by twerking in her face. As expected, Risk didn’t stand for the disrespect, following it up with a hip attack of her own.

Risk kept her foot on the gas pedal, stomping Haley in the corner before hitting a flurry of strikes and a Hurricanrana to down Hollyhood a few more times. Although Haley would dodge Risk’s version of a 619 that she calls the “505”, she wouldn’t be deterred. Risk pulled Haley J in for a reverse Swinging Neckbreaker for the massive win.

Result: Angelica Risk DEFEATS Hollyhood Haley J

Match 7: Jamin Olivencia (C) vs Kal Herro (OVW Rush Division Championship)

Before the match began, Doug Basham emerged to let the fans and Kal Herro specifically know that this match would be a no-disqualifications street fight. Of course, Olivencia was ready, hitting the Fanny Pack Kid from behind with a chair just as the bell rang.

From there, the Rush Division Champion methodically picked apart Herro, smashing the chair into his defenseless body over and over again. The beatdown was violent and uncomfortable, seemingly with no end in sight until Herro surprised Olivencia with a steel trash can lid to the face.

Despite the shot, Olivencia shrugged it off and continued to dominate the challenger, even hitting Kal with a baseball bat to speed up the process. He continued, tying Herro’s hand to the bottom rope before continuing to beat him senseless. Kal had absolutely no breathing room the entire match- until he threw Olivencia’s head into a steel chair wedged in the corner.

Herro fought back, giving Olivencia a taste of his own medicine as he used the foreign objects at ringside to his disposal. (This included sticking a toilet plunger to the top of Olivencia’s bald head) As the two got back into the ring, Olivencia hit his jumping DDT for a near-fall, milliseconds from retaining his title. As Olivencia looked for a second one, Kal reversed it, hitting his own Standing O onto the chair to become the new OVW Rush Division Champion!

Result:  Kal Herro DEFEATS Jamin Olivencia to become the New OVW Rush Division Champion

Overall

As expected, this week’s episode of Rise knocked it out of the park resulting in another can’t-miss episode that saw Kal Herro defeat Jamin Olivencia to become the new Rush Division Champion, two women advance to the next round in the women’s number one contenders tournament, and of course, endless drama when it comes to Revolution and everything they touch.

As expected, Revolution had a big impact on the show, both suspending Cash Flo for the night while kicking Will Austin out of the group after a week. Plus, let’s not forget the savage and shocking beatdown on the returning EC3. And although Basham promised to run roughshod over the entire OVW roster, Beaches N Cream, Dustin Jackson, and Angelica Risk all walked away with momentum-creating victories.

Overall, Rise 1310 was packed with quality in-ring action as well as good storyline progression that saw The Revolution lose a bit more power when it comes to OVW gold. Once again, the fans at the Davis Arena were treated to yet another fantastic show, leaving us on the edge of our seats as we wait for Rise 1311.
