One of the bigger stories around the net is the re-emergence of Chris Kanyon. For those of you in the dark, Chris has "come out" and publicly stated that he was fired from WWE for being a "homosexual". I find this to be one of the more interesting stories of recent memory because of the great debate in message boards across the net on whether or not Kanyon is just looking for publicity as a last attempt at saving his career or if Vinnie Mac is indeed a "homo-phobe". Chris Kanyon was and is indeed one of the most over-looked innovators in wrestling history, but I am not 100% sure that his homosexuality is the real reason he was released from WWE. Hopefully Vince McMahon will give us an honest answer one day.
Kurt Angle recently shocked the world by showing up in TNA and apparently signing a full time deal with them just days after being released from WWE due to health concerns. This acquisition was arguably the biggest one yet for TNA, but at what cost? I am a journalist and refuse to say that I know everything that goes on behind closed doors in the wrestling business, but concern for Kurt's health on the part of all parties involved is a fact. Angle is an amazing talent, but after so many tragic losses in wrestling over the past decade I would hope that Kurt would use common sense and just take some time off from the entire wrestling business as a whole. Although many wrestlers claim the need to "make money", I am sure that Mr. Angle is not struggling to pay the electric bill this month. Perhaps going to TNA and cutting down on match and travel time will be the best thing for Kurt and his family.
Batista's return has been less than stellar. He has looked stiff in the ring and less motivated since returning. I think Booker has done a fantastic job of holding the World Title division together, but in my opinion, Batista's value is only truly there if he is the World Champion. I have no doubt that the company has invested quite a bit of time and money into Batista and is stuck between a rock and a hard place due to his lack of ability to carry a match as of late. At this point, Smackdown's upper echelon is hurting considerably and I have to believe that sending Triple H or Shawn Michaels to Smackdwon would be the wisest move at this point.
Due to the announcement that Kurt Angle signed with TNA, many seemed to overlook the fact that TNA failed to produce a World Title match at the "No Surrender" pay per view. Charging 30 dollars for a pay per view and not having the World title up for grabs is downright insulting. There was no reason why Samoa Joe had to "steal" the NWA World Title from Jeff Jarrett. I may not be a huge fan of Joe's, but he is one of TNA's biggest draws and should have been rewarded with the NWA World Title. Perhaps I am being bias because to be honest, ANYONE besides Jeff Jarrett with the NWA World title would be fine in my book.
For the final and perhaps most humorous commentary of this column, Randy Orton was allegedly caught violating WWE policy just a week or two after he returned from a suspension. Rob Van Dam loses his entire push and is suspended for a month without pay for doing something EVERYONE already knew he did and Randy Orton gets a pay per view match with Hulk Hogan? Orton is noted as having a bad attitude, a blatant disregard for respect toward his peers, an apparent pot smoking problem and has even "relieved himself" in a diva's gym bag (God knows what else we don't know about) but keeps getting pushed. Vince McMahon apparently has this strong belief that Randy Orton is going to be his next Rock or Hogan but is more than likely going to find himself with the next Tommy Rich or Glacier. Orton's short and forgettable World Title reign was a failure and should the WWE put a title of that magnitude around his waist again, history will more than likely repeat itself. If I owned a company and one of my employees became the hindrance that Orton is, he would be terminated with no questions asked.
