This week’s episode of Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling Mayhem is from St Clair College in Windsor, Ontario. Our commentary team is Don Callis and Mauro Ranallo.
First Faction starts the show by having words with Sinner and Saint over the MLP Tag Team Championship that First Faction holds. Bryce Hanusson accepts the challenge from Sinner and Saint for a match tonight, and Shelton Jean slaps him for doing so.
Andrade El Ídolo (AEW National Champion) vs TJP
They lock up and move to arm bars. TJP gets a head scissor takedown while on his head. They move to mat wrestling and come to a stalemate and restart. Andrade gets an arm bar, and TJP turns it into a headlock takeover, and he whips Andrade into the corner. Andrade gets to the top for a diving crossbody for one.
Andrade is whipped to the ropes, and Andrade takes the Traquilo pose. He then gets a dropkick, knocking TJP to the floor. Andrade hits TJP with a moonsault from the top and then gets a selfie with a woman in the front row. This sends us to a commercial break.
When we return, they are back in the ring, and Andrade kips up. He gets a running double knee strike in the corner for two. Andrade gets an elbow strike on TJP, who he had in a chinlock. TJP avoids a charge in the corner and gets a tornado DDT, and both men are down. TJP knocks Andrade down in the corner and gets a face wash. TJP goes to the top, and Andrade joins him. TJP knocks Andrade down and gets a Mamba splash for two. TJP quickly grabs a TJP lock, and Andrade goes to the ropes for a break, and Andrade gets a rollup for two.
TJP hits a spinning back kick, but Andrade answers with Dia de los Muertos followed by the DM for the pin and the win.
Winner and still AEW National Champion: Andrade El Idolo
Andrade grabs a mic and asks if Rohan Raja is better than him. He will see him at the pay-per-view on October 3rd. How you know?
We get footage from after last week’s Mayhem where Evil Uno catches up with Stu Grayson, says he knows Stu is upset, and that they should go talk.
1st Faction (Sheldon Jean and Brent Banks) w/Brent Banks (MLP Tag Team Champions) vs Sinner and Saint (Judas Icarus and Travis Williams) - Non-title match
Williams and Banks start the match, and Williams throws a series of strikes to knock Banks down. Williams gets a kick and then tags in Icarus. Jean tags in and knocks Icarus to the floor so that he can’t get into the ring. 1st Faction then grabs Williams for double-team strikes. This leads to all four men in the ring. Williams and Icarus take out Jean and Banks with kicks, and Jean is sent to the floor. Williams dives onto Jean on the floor as Icarus gets a comebacker clothesline for two.
Williams is tagged in, but Banks kicks Icarus out of the ring before getting a small package on Icarus for two. Banks goes for a tag, but Jean is still on the floor arguing with Hanson. Icarus and Williams hit Ode to the Fallen on Banks for the pin and the win.
Winners: Sinner and Saint
Psycho Mike says no matter where he goes, someone is talking to him. We see a spooky figure around him saying that the world keeps using him because he keeps looking for permission.
Pricilla Kelly is doing an interview, and Nikki Storm interrupts her and says she will dedicate her match against Giselle Shaw. Pricilla says that she would have won if Nikki hadn’t been holding the referee’s leg. Pricella says management saw it and gave Pricella a match against Shaw for next week, and if she wins, she will give Nikki the first shot at HER title.
Capitan Suicida and Neon vs Grizzled Young Veterans (James Drake and Zack Gibson) vs Good Brothers (Doc Gallows and Carl Anderson) vs Subculture (Morgan Webster and Mark Andrews)
Neon and Drake start the match, and Neon is able to take Drake to his knees, but they run the ropes. Drake gets a shoulder tackle, and Neon pops right back up. Neon flips over Drake and takes him down with a basement dropkick. Capitan tags in and hits a flying crossbody from the top. Drake tags in Andrews, and they lock up. They move to arm bars and then go move for move before running the ropes. Capitan gets a rollup for two, and Andrews does the same
Gibson tags himself in on Capitan. Andrews gets a casadora, but Gibson turns it into an arm drag. Andrews tags in Webster, and they double-team Gibson with a double hip toss, and then Andrews drops Webster on Gibson. Andrews gets a standing moonsault. Gibson and Webster trade blows, and Gibson is able to tag in Drake, but Webster doesn’t see it. They get a trip and a dropkick on Webster and then kick Andrews off the apron.
Webster escapes out the back of a pickup and is tagged out by Anderson. Gallows is tagged in; the Good Brothers double-team Drake. The Good Brothers then clear the ring and the apron as we go to the commercial.
When we return, Capitan and Neon are holding the ring and knock the Good Brothers to the floor. Neon gets a Spanish Fly, and Capitan gets a swanton bomb on Drake for two. Subculture is knocked off the apron, and the Good Brothers get a boot of Doom on Capitan, broken up by Drake. Subculture is in the ring with GYV, and it’s time for everyone to get a big move on the last person in the ring, ending with everyone laid out.
Gibson is tagged in, and we get GYV and Subculture in the ring throwing hands. Andrews gets a double Stundog Millionaire on GYV and tags in Webster. Andrews dives onto Drake on the floor while Webster hits Shadows of Malice on Gibson for two, broken up by Anmder4son. Neon and Capitan double team Anderson before diving onto both of the Good Brothers. Gallows double suplexes Capitan and Neon on the entrance ramp.
In the ring, Webster gets a headbutt on Gibson, and tags in Andrews. Andrews is distracted by Drake, but fights him off. He leaps over a charging Gibson and grabs a victory roll for two. Drake is tagged in, and GYV drops Andrews on the top rope and hits a double code breaker on Andrews for the pin and the win.
Winners: The Grizzled Young Veterans
Josh Alexander arrives at the building, and he is met by Evil Uno. Uno asks why he ruined Stu’s moment, knowing it would upset him. Josh says when you are the champ, that’s the pressure you have to deal with.
We are then shown footage from backstage at AEW Dynamite of Steve Macklin attacking Adam Copeland.
Josh Alexander comes to the ring to address the audience. He feels fortunate to be standing in the ring because he was injured five months ago. He says he questioned whether he would come back and be the same man who defended the MLP Championship. He says he has good news, but Stu Grayson interrupts him.
Stu says the last time they were in the ring, they didn’t get to talk. He’s here to fight, and Josh isn’t able to fight. Josh says they have known each other for 20 years, and Stu says to give him what he wants and quit wasting his time. Josh says he is officially cleared for in-ring competition. Stu says they should give the fans what they want right here, right now.
Josh says the match is happening at the pay-per-view Northern Rising. Josh says Stu needs to be at his best when they face each other for the championship. Josh says that Stu is cracking under the pressure, so he needs to shut up, and if he doesn’t show up at his best, he will dog-walk him around the ring and send him to the back of the line. Stu punches Josh, and Josh rolls to the floor.
