SAME OLD MATCHES, TOO MUCH TALKING - FIRST BATCH OF READER FEEDBACK TO RAW

By PWInsiderXtra Readers on 10/31/2006 10:05 AM
If the opening segment of Raw was meant to drag viewers away from the football, I don’t think it will have worked. Setting up a match we’ve seen twice in a row already with the only variation of it being a screw-job from the start, and a match that is so obviously going to be Cena vs. a non-wrestler is not a good way to get people watching.

The triple threat match was okay for what it was (especially the bulldog from nowhere by Shelton) but was “blink and you miss it”. To the casual fan, there was no incentive to watch the IC match at Cyber Sunday. If Carlito can beat two guys in under 5 minutes, why would someone pay to see him fight one person? This is a shame because the IC match has the potential to…no, will…have the best wrestling on the card.

Am I only the person fed up with the “top star gets over tormenting announcer/interviewer?”. Shouldn’t it just be the heels that bully?

Why do all the Divas fancy the only guy on the roster with better hair then them?

When they announced the Women’s title stipulation choices at Cyber Sunday, I thought “A No-DQ match with Lita and Mickie would be fun, but all those narrow minded guys will choose the lumberjacks so they can see all the Divas in one match”. Then I saw the Maria photo spread and her outfit and became one of them! But, hopefully we’ll get the best of both worlds as the eye candy will be on the outside, letting the women that can wrestle get to it in the ring.

HHH pedigreeing Edge was the first wake-up moment of the night. At last a wrestler fighting the odds with common sense. The actual match was a good back and forth bout until Edge interfered and I like the way the two on one attack went back and forth as well. I’m not sure if giving us so many HHH v Edge matches is good though if the plan is for them to feud later on.

It’s worrying when Eugene is the brains of a team, but that’s what he was by avoiding Umaga in the handicap match. Why do I get the awful premonition of psychiatrist skits being forthcoming?

Ron Simmons is no Rock - the delayed “damn” didn’t get the pop it did last week.

Roddy Piper has fought the Spirit Squad before but has a dodgy hip, Sergeant Slaughter is probably the best wrestler but seeing him fight is nothing novel, so I’m guessing Dusty Rhodes will win the vote, if only to make Ric Flair feel better about his weight gain. Where exactly did Dusty get 6-time champ from though? Even if you only count NWA title wins (which is technically the World belt now) it’s more than that.

Cryme Tyme are less over than PG-13 when they were in WWE years ago. After Eugene last week, this time it’s Charlie Haas’s turn for the Richard Simmons tribute. Watching Cryme Tyme reminds me of Will and Carlton from Fresh Prince of Bel Air…only a show with them wrestling would have got better ratings. As it’s Halloween, was Big Vis wearing white in tribute to the Stay Puff Marshmallow man from Ghostbusters? A pretty neat end to the match, but I was really glad it was the end of the match…

Is Coach the only person who doesn’t know about the “delete your cookies to register multiple votes” method on WWE.com? I must be tired because I didn’t predict the Booker and Show attack on Cena. Not that it had any effect on the “match”, which isn’t worth talking about.

Overall, for a go home show, if I was in the arena, I would!

It made no sense for Orton to walk back and forth along the top of the entrance ramp area after his partner had just been attacked by their arch enemy. I got the impression that Orton was in urgent need of a washroom.

While Carlito may have looked good in the ring, his exchange with Torrie Wilson was clumsy and awkward.

The camera angles of Big Show's preparations for his possible match were very unflattering.

While I liked some parts of Cena's interview, his describing Kevin Federline's upcoming CD release as a bomb confirms the old axiom that it takes one to know one.

One has to wonder how on earth the Chairman could have described Booker's championship as the long-defunct WCW Title. As if one severe memory lapse was not sufficient, Rhodes spoke warmly of Flair's 6 career world titles. Personally, I feel that the American Dream should not have any on camera responsibility until his weight decreases substantially.

Eugene's character should be eliminated.

The drum roll preceding the voting results was gratuitous in substance and presentation. One could perhaps make the same comments about the main event. Having Cena require both of his finishing moves to defeat a non-wrestler does not enhance his in-ring credibility.

This week's Raw was a bore....HHH vs Randy Orton for the third week in a row? WTF? And can you BURY Edge & Orton more? I mean HHH getting the better of these 2 again ALONE ! Now that's "good" booking....lol.. And WHY oh WHY did HHH win the match by DQ, when Edge was the referee? Logic booking says that Edge helps Orton win the match, but I guess "someone's" EGO wouldn't have any of that

Nothing on this show came of as good ! This was one of the WORST Raw shows in a while....

Now I'm NOT looking forward to Cyber Sunday
