NOTHING GOOD, NOTHING BAD - WWE SURVIVOR SERIES FEEDBACK

By PWInsiderXtra Readers on 11/27/2006 12:52 AM
This ppv reminded me of a Seinfeld episode - a show about nothing. Nothing really good. Nothing really bad. Nothing athletic. Nothing surprising. Nothing memorable. Nothing standing out. This was a flat-out, boring show, which is unacceptable for a dual-brand ppv. Overall bell-to-bell in-ring action was less than 80 minutes. No single wrestler or exchange stood out as being above-average, let alone something to talk about tomorrow. If I had to pick a highlight for this show, I would have to pick the post-match chair shot that Undertaker gave Kennedy. As far as worst part of the show, the overall booking takes that prize - Flair single-handedly beating three men half his age; the Benoit match being shorter than the Lita match; the complete jobbing of Rated RKO; giving Cena the pin over Big Show instead of Lashley and the quick exits of Van Dam and Sabu, with the ECW ppv a week away. Dave Batista simply cannot deliver a main-event caliber match. Overall, 3/10.

I'll make this quick.

It says a lot about a show when Lita/MJ/Cryme Tyme was the best part of the show.

I give it a 6 out of 10 but very predictable. WWE is getting very predictable and starting to turn me away from it and onto TNA more and more. What happened to the 3 hour shows, not 2 hours and 35 minutes. They could of added another match to the show or lengthened one of the other matches. Vince, you better wake up before it's to late and you have competition, which I hope for.  I hope TNA becomes a viable contender to where we have another Monday Night War again.  Then maybe Vince will wake up.

Thank You, Tom

Okay, so the Spanish Announcers get to make it to the PPV but Joey Styles and Tazz don’t? Lilian Garcia looked hot tonight.

Team Legends vs Spirit Squad – Excuse the pun but “Damn!” what an ovation for Ron Simmons. Shame he was kicked off so early and in such a pathetic way. The crowd chant of “BS” when AA was ejected from ringside summed it up for me. I know they wanted the big babyface/nostalgia pop but Flair beating three of the Squad by himself is a little far fetched. Then again, the Squad have been booked so badly since day one that I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. And where were Flair’s partners when he was being beaten up after the match?

Chris Benoit vs Chavo Guerrero – How can JBL be so pro-Guerrero after everything he did to Eddie and the family? Good match but way to short – only 9 minutes? Criminal. I got the idea it wouldn’t last when Benoit got most of the offence and Chavo’s was sporadic. This should have been much better.

Isn’t it amazing that Lita waits until the end of her career to start delivering decent promos? Glad to see that the Cryme Tyme gimmick still isn’t living up to any racial stereotypes…

Lita vs Mickie James – This was the most heated Woman’s match in recent years that hasn’t featured Trish Stratus. I see that the ECW fans were in attendance. I thought this would be a real mess but despite being a little sloppy both ladies but together a real good match. The Cryme Tyme stuff afterwards was um…whatever.

That was probably DAVE’s best promo – because he didn’t say anything!

Team DX vs Team RKO – First off, can Melina where that outfit for ever more? Secondly, I was so glad to hear CM Punk get such a great reaction from the fans here. As for the match, well it started off well with lots of hard work then it got a little silly with the DX glomming the glory after the other guys did all the work. If any match should have put Edge & Orton over as killer heels it was this one. Still, it was great fun. Oh and to answer Lawler’s question, a few teams of four have remained intact over the years but this is the first team of five to do so. In fact, one of them was the Undertaker’s team at the 1995 Series against whom Lawler was an opponent!

Undertaker vs Mr. Kennedy – Dull match with a predictable finish. I don’t know why they couldn’t have allowed Kennedy to get away with this (inadvertent, thanks to MVP) win then have Taker finally and decisively beat Kennedy in the final match. The post match chair shot was sick though.

Team Cena vs Team Big Show – Usual warm reaction to Cena. I noticed they booed the hell out of him until he hit the FU on Show. Okay match but a bit messy in places. With the exception of Finlay and Big Show, there was no cohesion on the heel team, and it was clear that Lashley (who debuted last year for the Team RAW vs Team SD match JR) and Cena were the main stars on the opposing team. I was surprised that Umaga went so early. I figure he would go alter after a big exchange with Cena. More bizarre booking. And why did Lilian announce the whole of Team Cena as winners when she is supposed to announce just the survivors?

King Booker vs DAVE – When will the bookers learn that certain stipulations like “No DQ or No countout” pretty much gives away the result before hand? Same old match that we’ve seen from these two before with Booker working his arse off and DAVE sweating like a pig despite not doing anything. So Booker can kick out of the Batista Bomb but not a belt shot? Tch. I just hope that this isn’t the end of the King Booker character because he has done so well in carrying SD over the past 6 months and it would be a crime if he was now shuffle away. Question is – who is the next challenger for the title?

Bottom Line: Much like TNA’s Genesis PPV last week, this promised so much on paper yet didn’t quite meet expectations. Nothing really clicked to produce anything memorable and the booking was a bit iffy in places (whereas the booking on Genesis was suspect throughout the whole show). The time spent on the Cryme Tyme/Lita skit and DX’s crowd milking could have gone to Benoit vs Chavo but WWE prefers this alleged “entertainment” over wrestling.

No questions were really answered tonight and no new questions arose. Enjoyable action but disappointing overall.

My Score – 5/10

Cheers
