Full Impact Pro Second Year Spectacular Night One DVD Review

by Richard Trionfo

In September, Full Impact Pro Wrestling celebrated its second anniversary in September with two shows.  The first show was held in Inverness , Florida and featured the debuts of Delirious and Cyber Kong in Full Impact Pro Wrestling.  Also on the show were Roderick Strong; the Briscoe Brothers; the Heartbreak Express; and the FIP Tag Team Champions, Black Mark et.

Your announcers are Jared David and Dave Prazak.

Jonathan Gold welcomes everyone to the show and he brings out Dave Prazak of DP Associates.  Dave comments on the reaction that he got from the crowd and he says that he is just as excited to see them tonight.  He says that DP Associates run the show in the FIP.  He has the FIP Heavyweight Champion in his stable, Bryan Danielson.  He is a little occupied tonight because he is busy defending the title all over the world.  Since Bryan Danielson is not here this weekend, he has brought in two monsters to join DP Associates to take care of any challengers to the title.  He brings out his first monster, who is part man and part monster, Cyber Kong.  His second monster was found in the swamps of Florida .  He will fight alligators or snakes, Delirious.

Roderick Strong comes out and he says that he was in the back and he heard what Dave Prazak was saying.  Strong says that it does not matter if Prazak has brought in two new monsters or five new monsters because he has been in FIP since the beginning and he will win the FIP title from Bryan Danielson.  When he wins the title, he will bring some prestige to the FIP title.

Prazak calls Roderick Strong a loser and the members of the YRR, Chasyn Rance, Steve Madison, and Kenny King; attack Strong from behind.  Seth Delay, Sal Rinauro, and Erick Stevens come out and the YRR head to the back.  They check on Strong and head to the back.

Black Mark et and Allison Danger come out.  Joey Machete gets on the mic and he tells the people of Inverness that the belts are theirs.  They are fighting champions and they will prove it.  He says that the Heartbreak Express don’t want any more of them or Allison Danger.  They don’t care who they fight tonight for the titles because they will lose.

Colt Cabana and Sal Rinauro come out and Colt gets on the mic.  He says that they would be more than happy to take on Black Mark et tonight if the people of Inverness want to see it.  Cabana suggests a gentlemanly competition for the tag titles.  Black Mark et accepts the challenge.

Match Number One:  Black Mark et (with Allison Danger) defeat Colt Cabana and Sal Rinauro to retain the FIP Tag Team Titles

Both teams try to get the advantage and Black Mark et succeeds in getting the advantage as Murphy uses his size advantage to control Rinauro and Cabana.  Black Mark et is able to stop any attempts by Cabana and Rinauro in the match.  Murphy misses a splash from the second turnbuckle and that allows Cabana and Rinauro to work over Black Mark et.  Rinauro and Cabana work on Murphy’s arm and wear him down.  Machete is able to tag in and then while Cabana and Machete wrestle in the ring, Murphy and Rinauro fight on the floor.  Cabana looks for the tag, but Rinauro is on the floor and then Black Mark et finish off Cabana with the side slam and neck breaker combination for the three count.

After the match, Black Mark et shakes hands with Cabana and Rinauro.

So Cal Val and the Heartbreak Express come out and Val gets on the mic.  Val says that Allison looks all innocent in the ring, but she knows that Allison cost the Heartbreak Express the tag titles.  Val says that she would take care of Allison herself, but she brought someone in to take care of Allison.  Val suggests that Allison face that person now.  Val introduces their secret weapon, Lacey.

Match Number Two:  Allison Danger (with Black Mark et)

Allison attacks Lacey when Lacey enters the ring.  Sean Davis trips Allison to allow Lacey to get back into the match.  Val assists Lacey by choking Allison in the ropes while Lacey distracts the referee.  Lacey hits a full nelson bomb into a camel clutch but Danger does not submit.  Danger blocks a suplex and she gets Lacey in an inside cradle, but each reverses the inside cradle as they roll around the ring.  The Heartbreak Express distract the referee when Danger covers Lacey and Black Mark et take care of the Heartbreak Express at ringside.  Danger hits an STO for the three count.

After the match, Danger attacks Lacey in the ring while Machete hits Sean Davis with a trash can.  All six continue to fight outside the ring and then Machete hits Sean in the back with a chair.  Machete slams Phil Davis on a table and then Murphy and Machete work over Phil.  Sean hits Machete with a chair while Murphy hits Sean with a trash can.  Phil sets up a table while Machete hits Sean with another trash can.  Sean sends Machete into the table as the brawl continues around the building.  Sean hits Murphy with a trash can Machete grabs Val, but Sean makes the save.  The Heartbreak Express head to the back.

Machete gets on the mic and he thanks everyone.  He says that this is all for the fans.  He says that tomorrow night in Crystal River ; they challenge the Heartbreak Express and Lacey to a No Disqualification six person match for the FIP Tag Team Titles.  They will finish off the Heartbreak Express and will spill their blood.

Match Number Three:  Mark Briscoe (with Jay Briscoe) defeats Canadian Cougar

Briscoe uses his size and strength advantage early in the match.  Cougar is sent to the apron, but Jay pulls Cougar to the floor and then Mark hits a plancha.  When the action returns to the ring, Briscoe maintains control of the match with Cougar trying to get an opening.  All of Cougar’s attempts are stopped by Briscoe.  Cougar is able to counter an inverted suplex attempt with a DDT and Cougar tries to capitalize on that and he hits a somersault senton on Jay from the apron.  Cougar tries for a frog splash but Jay pushes Cougar off the top turnbuckle.  Mark gets the three count with a rollup.

Match Number Four:  YRR (Chasyn Rance, Steve Madison, and Kenny King) defeat Roderick Strong, Seth Delay, and Erick Stevens

Strong, Delay, and Stevens hit the ring and the YRR head outside to plan strategy for the match.  Former tag team partners, Delay and Rance start things off.  The YRR try to isolate Delay from his partners as they wear him down at the start of the match.  Strong slaps Rance and Madison refuses to make the tag.  Despite being their first time working together; Strong, Delay, and Stevens work well as a team to take care of the YRR.  The YRR uses questionable methods to take control of the match as they double and triple team their opponents.  While the referee is distracted, the YRR work over Delay using the ring post.  Delay is able to tag in Stevens and that leads to all six men in the ring.  Dave Prazak comes to ringside to watch the match as the YRR work over Stevens.  King, Delay, Rance, and Stevens fight outside the ring while Strong and Madison battle in the ring.  Strong has Madison covered, but Dave Prazak distracts the referee, allowing Cyber Kong to come into the ring and hit an Ace Crusher.  Madison is placed on top of Strong for the three count.

Dave Prazak comes out and he interrupts Jonathan Gold.  He comes out with Cyber Kong.  He reminds everyone that he said that his monsters would take care of any challengers to Bryan Danielson’s title; and Roderick Strong was pinned in the six man match earlier tonight.  Roderick Strong comes out and he chops Cyber Kong and they fight to the ring.

Match Number Five:  Roderick Strong defeats Cyber Kong by disqualification

Strong and Cyber Kong fight outside of the ring and they make their way to the ring.  Cyber Kong challenges Strong to chop him and they both exchange chops.  When it appears that Strong is about to finish off Cyber Kong, Delirious comes to the ring to cause the disqualification.

Delirious attacks Strong but Sal Rinauro, Seth Delay, and Erick Stevens come out to make the save.

Dave Prazak gets on the mic and he says that Roderick Strong does not look like a winner right now.  He says that Strong will never get the title from Bryan Danielson.

Roderick Strong is helped to the back by Delay, Rinauro, and Stevens.

Match Number Six:  Jerrelle Clark defeats Jay Briscoe (with Mark Briscoe)

After a clean break, Briscoe claims that Clark pulled his hair despite the fact that his head is nearly shaved.  Briscoe wants to have a test of strength but he is too tall for Jerrelle.  They try one more time and Clark stomps on Briscoe’s foot.  Clark continues to control the match as he works over Briscoe and he uses high risk maneuvers to work over Briscoe.  Mark Briscoe gets on the apron to distract the referee and that allows Jay to hit a low kick on Clark and Mark works over Jerrelle on the floor while Jay talks to the referee.  Despite having things under control, Jay gets more help from his brother while Jay talks to the referee.  Clark tries to neutralize Mark on the floor by hitting a rana from the apron.  Clark appears to have things under control, but Jay goes outside.  Clark goes outside to deal with the Briscoes.  Mark gets on the apron to distract the referee and he stops Clark from hitting the handspring moonsault.  Clark is able to counter a crucifix move with a sunset flip for the three count.

Match Number Seven:  Davey Richards defeats Delirious (with Dave Prazak)

The bell rings and Delirious runs around the ring and outside while Richards wonders what is going on.  Delirious returns to the ring and he wants Richards to back up, but it was a ruse because he goes back outside the ring again.  Delirious returns to the ring and he claims that Richards pulled his mask before they even locked up.  They finally lock up, but after getting to the ropes, Delirious returns outside the ring.  Richards has the advantage, but Delirious goes under the ring to try to regain control, but Richards avoids a missile drop kick and Richards maintains control of the match.  The action moves outside to the floor when Delirious is kicked off the apron.  Delirious tries to pin Richards, but he has Richards on his chest instead of his back despite Prazak’s instructions to turn Richards over.  Richards regains control of the match and he tries to put Delirious away, but he is unsuccessful.  Richards tries for a superplex, but Prazak grabs Richards’s leg to allow Delirious to hit a sunset flip power bomb.  Delirious hits Shadows over Hell and puts Richards in the Cobra Stretch, but Richards fights out of the hold and he puts Delirious in the Stretch Muffler and Delirious taps.

After the match, Cyber Kong attacks Richards in the ring with a pineapple to Richards’s head.  Roderick Strong comes out and he goes after Cyber Kong and Delirious before checking on Davey Richards.

Roderick Strong gets on the mic and he challenges Delirious in Crystal River .  Strong says that after beating Delirious, he wants to face Bryan Danielson for the title when they return to Inverness .

DVD Thoughts:

The show runs approximately two hours and fifteen minutes.

The best matches of the night were the six man tag match, the Delirious/Richards match, and the Clark/Briscoe match.

The Lacey/Allison Danger match was very good and it provides a glimpse of what you can see on the Shimmer DVDs.  The women’s matches in FIP are not filler matches.

They did a good job of capturing some of the things that Delirious does in and out of the ring, but Delirious is definitely someone you should try to see live.

While there were no major problems with the sound from the mics, there was a problem hearing the music that was playing in the building on this DVD.  Some of the promos were hard to hear, but that has been the case on previous DVDs.  Some times it is because of the crowd noise and some times it is from the promo not being loud enough to be heard in the building.  When they showed shots from the hard camera, it was a little too dark to see some of the action in the ring.  However, when they switched to the ringside cameras, things looked fine.

While the crowd in Inverness is not always the largest crowds that FIP runs in front of, they were very loud throughout the show.

This weekend of shows did a lot to set up the recent Cage of Pain show with the feud between the Heartbreak Express and Black Mark et going to the next level with the announcement of the six person match for the title.  This was the top feud in the state of Florida in 2006 by far.

The commentary from Prazak and David provides a good way to catch up on storylines in the company.  They did a good job talking about Night Two of the Second Year Spectacular, which is also available on DVD.  It was also funny to hear Prazak trying to explain why Bryan Danielson was not at this show.  While the commentary sometimes goes on tangents, it is still entertaining and somewhat related to FIP.
