SAY GOODBYE TO SOME MORE FANS - READER FEEDBACK TO ECW

By PWInsiderXtra Readers on 1/3/2007 5:28 PM
After last night’s Raw and tonight’s ECW the WWE has painted a clear picture of what they have in store for 2007. After observing where their product is headed I have come to the decision that after 25+ years of being hooked on WWE I am DONE. I’m sure Vince and co. won’t miss my few hundred dollars a year in PPV’s etc…Time to find another obsession. Good luck to all of those who decide to suffer out another year. What little wrestling I watch will be TNA or read about here on PWInsider.

Sincerely,
J Wilson

For those that missed tonight's ECW show (and how I envy you), here's your quick recap:

Match #1: ECW veteran (Sabu) jobs to a WWE wrestler (Test)

Match #2: ECW veterans (F.B.I.) job to WWE wrestlers (Burke & Turkay)

Intermission: ECW veteran (Tommy Dreamer) talks about how he's been getting dominated by a WWE wrestler (Khali)

Match #3: ECW veteran (Balls Mahoney) jobs to a WWE wrestler (Kevin Thorne)

Match #4: ECW veteran (Rob Van Dam) gets all but squashed by a WWE wrestler (Bobby Lashley)

So there we have it. 5 more reminders from Vince McMahon that ECW was a worthless company, and we were all idiots for liking it. WWE wrestlers are the only ones that are capable of winning.

Oh, and let's touch on the main event non-finish. If they had stuck with the original angle of RVD hitting Lashley... well, the ending still would have sucked, but by showing the multiple angles it was obvious to anyone watching that the spot was botched and it didn't look anywhere near as brutal as they were playing it up to be.

I just got back from the show, so I don't know how everything came off on TV, but I have to say, it was kind of a let down. Starting off with Test whining about how he wasn't picked to face Lashley, and then squashing Sabu started the show off with a bad taste in my mouth. When it looked like they came back from commercial Elijah Burke and Sylvester Terkay entered the ring and started talking about how they had a tag match, and then they showed the Sandman ad, which everyone popped to thinking that he was coming out to fight one of them. But nope, we got the FBI. Nice set up for the live audience. It's not that I don't like the FBI, because I do, but the way it was shown to the live audience made it feel like a bait and switch. And no CM Punk! That got some Bulls*** chants from the crowd. Punk came through Lakeland a few times when he was still in the indy's, but I never got to see him and I was hoping to then, but no, they had to keep him off this week, damn WWE. The way Thorn won his match was a wtf moment for sure, as the hit didn't really seem as hard as it came off to be, but honestly, the less I see of Thorn the better. But now to the main event, or the disappointment of the night as I think of it. The match was really good, but the way they ended it just blew. I hate "no contest" endings, and seeing one live is that much worse. Thank god for the non-televised main-event, because if ECW's main-event would of been it, I would swore off ever going to another ECW show again.

Test opening the show was fine to push him into #1 contendership, but an hour long show does not need 2 or 3 recaps from two weeks ago in one segment. the match vs. Sabu is what we've come to expect in a WWECW vs. original ECW match, unfortunately.

Burke is good on the mic. Terkay has not shown anything to be impressed with at all. Another sad day for FBI.

I like CM Punk but how many times do we need to see him wrestle H.H.? Lets mix it up, please?

Dreamers interview was good, to the point and I pray he gets the upper hand in this fued at some point.

Brad Armstrong... I'm confused, he is here why?

Thorn and Mahoney, could of been a good match, albeit recycled from two months ago. Looked like Balls was legitimately hurt, all involved seemed surprised at the quick finish.

A decent interview from Bobby Lashley for once he didn't sound completely scripted.

Vladimir Kozlov.. I hope his wrestling is better than his gimmick.

Before the final commercial break, did anyone catch the camera view a sign that said something to the extent of "If RVD doesn't win, it's time for TNA" That cut away quick but it was there!

Finally a main event without commercial interruption. Instead we get a screwy finish. Even WWE.com had to cover up that it was weak by saying it was a high-risk maneuver. It was a clothesline, from the apron to the table... had it been a moosault in the same environment, yes high risk but this was not. And I guess the announcers were speechless too, the whole silence thing... I don't get it. How about an "OH MY GOD" from Joey or something to sell it... something... anything?

Why bother.
