Fallout 2006 DVD Review

In October, Full Impact Pro Wrestling returned to Brooksville with their Fallout 2006 show.  This show started the wheels turning in the company towards the new era in the company and the eventual title changes in the company.  This show featured a number one contenders match for the FIP Title as Davey Richards faced Roderick Strong with the opportunity to face Bryan Danielson in the future.  We also saw Black Mark et, the Heartbreak Express, and Briscoe Brothers appear in separate matches as the tag team division in this company showed its strength.

Your announcers are Jared David and Dave Prazak

The Tag Team Champions, the Heartbreak Express come out with So Cal Val.  Sean Davis gets on the mic and he says that the belts are back home.  He tells the people of Brooksville not to be jealous because they are in the presence of the best tag team.  Both Sean and So Cal Val say that there are no true number one contenders so tonight; they will face two opponents in a non-title match.

Match Number One:  Heartbreak Express (Sean Davis and Phil Davis [with So Cal Val]) defeat Jaison Moore and Bobby Hopkins Jr. in a non-title match

When Moore and Hopkins enter the ring, they are attacked by the tag champions and Moore is thrown out of the ring.  The champions appear to have taken the challengers lightly since the titles were not on the line and Moore and Hopkins control the match early.  Eventually, the Heartbreak Express is able to take over and Sean uses his size advantage on Moore while they double team Moore .  Moore tries for a sunset flip, but Sean drops down for the three count.

After the match, the Heartbreak Express stay in the ring and they respond to some of the crowd’s chants.

Black Mark et comes out and the Heartbreak Express and Val leave the ring.  Machete gets on the mic and he says that they want their belts back right now.  He asks the fans if they want to see Black Mark et versus the Heartbreak Express right now.  Val gets on the mic and she asks Machete if he thinks he can demand things.  Val says that she is the only one who can do it.  She tells Black Mark et that they will need to earn their title shot.  Jerrelle Clark and Jon Davis come out and they want a shot at the titles.  Val suggests that both teams wrestle to determine the number one contenders for the tag titles.

Match Number Two:  Black Mark et (Murphy and Machete) defeats Fast & Furious Version 2 ( Jerrelle Clark and Jon Davis)

Despite being a new tag team, Davis and Clark are able to get the early advantage on Black Mark et.  Clark and Davis double team Machete and get a near fall thanks to the double team maneuvers.  Clark tries for some high impact moves but Murphy is able to use his size advantage and that allows Black Mark et to work over Clark .  Black Mark et tries to isolate Clark, but Clark is able to make the tag.  Davis and Clark are unable to get the advantage back and the experience of Black Mark et allows them to wear down Clark and Davis.  Black Mark et takes care of Clark and then Black Mark et pins Davis with the neckbreaker/side slam combination.

After the match, So Cal Val comes out she says that the crowd was impressed with Black Mark et’s match, but the crowd does not make the decision.  There is still no number one contender so the search continues.

Chasyn Rance comes out and he talks about how he is a member of the elite group, the YRR.  He says that they have everything that the fans want.  Then he waits for his opponent to come to the ring.

Match Number Three:  Chasyn Rance defeats Canadian Cougar

Rance tries to take advantage of Cougar before the match, but Cougar is able to fight off Rance and Rance goes outside to regroup.  Rance tries to get Cougar to submit and uses a variety of holds to wear him down.  Cougar fights back and gets a few near falls and he tries to work over Rance when it appears that Rance has injured his leg.  Steve Madison comes to ringside to provide support for Rance.  When Cougar goes up top, Steve Madison comes out and he pushes Cougar off the turnbuckle and Rance hits the Chasyn Driver for the three count.

After the match, Madison attacks Cougar and Seth Delay comes out and gets on the mic and says that he is sick of what Rance and Madison are doing.

Match Number Four:  Steve Madison defeats Seth Delay

Delay takes the early advantage in the match, but Madison goes out of the ring to regroup.  Delay tries for a high impact move to the floor but Madison catches Delay and sends Delay into the ring post to wear him down.  The action returns to the ring and Madison continues to wear down Delay.  After trying to fight back, Delay is finally able to gain control as he uses his speed advantage on Madison .  Delay goes up top and Chasyn Rance comes out and he tries to stop Delay.  Delay fights Rance off, but Madison stops Delay and he hits a super belly-to-back suplex for the three count.

After the match, Madison works over Delay and that brings out Sal Rinauro and Erick Stevens.  Madison and Rance leave and Stevens and Rinauro check on Delay.

So Cal Val comes out and she has some news for Sal Rinauro and Erick Stevens.  They could be the number one contenders for the FIP Tag Titles.  The Briscoes come out and Jay says that they are the number one contenders because they won their match last month.  Val says that since there are no officials from FIP in the building to stop her, she will make a match.

Match Number Five:  The Briscoe Brothers ( Mark Briscoe and Jay Briscoe) defeat Erick Stevens and Sal Rinauro

Both teams try to feel each other out to get the advantage at the start of the match.  Mark tries for a high impact move that misses its mark and that gives Rinauro and Stevens the chance to take control.  The Briscoes are able to double team Stevens to take over in the match.  Stevens is able to make the tag after Jay misses a leg drop and Rinauro takes down Jay.  Rinauro appears to have things under control but Jay hits a running boot on the apron to daze Rinauro.  Stevens tries to get back into the match, but without the benefit of a tag, the referee keeps him on the apron and that allows the Briscoes to double team Rinauro.  Stevens is finally able to tag in and that allows Stevens and Rinauro to gain control.  All four men battle and that allows Mark to take care of Stevens on the floor and then the Briscoes finish off Rinauro with a springboard Doomsday Device for the three count.

After the match, Val comes out and she says that she has another brilliant ideas.  She says that everything will be settled in Bushnell.  The Briscoes will face Black Mark et and the winner will face the Heartbreak Express for the titles.  Joey Machete comes from behind and he takes Val to the back.

Matt Sydal comes out and he thanks for the fans for the warm welcome.  He says that he did not come here to mess around.  He came here for the FIP Title.  He says that he will take the belt from Bryan Danielson.

Dave Prazak comes out with Bryan Danielson, Mr. Milo Beasley, Shingo, and Cyber Kong) and he wonders what Matt Sydal is thinking.  He tells Sydal to be careful or he might get DPed with a pineapple.  Sydal says that he has earned a shot at the belt and he has something to prove so he will take on any member of DP Associates.  Prazak sends Mr. Milo Beasley and Bryan Danielson to the back and he tells Shingo to make an example of Sydal.

Match Number Six:  Matt Sydal defeats Shingo (with Dave Prazak, Cyber Kong, and Mr. Milo Beasley)

The members of DP Associates try to distract Sydal as the match begins.  Both men work on the legs at the start of the match and the action stays on the mat.  Sydal tries to take Shingo down with power moves, but it is unsuccessful, but he is able to take Shingo down with a spin kick and Shingo goes outside to discuss strategy with the members of DP Associates.  Sydal tries to ground Shingo as well as use high impact moves.  Shingo is able to choke Sydal when Sydal tries to take Shingo down with a clothesline.  Sydal fights back, but he is tripped by Cyber Kong and while the referee is distracted by Shingo, Cyber Kong and Mr. Milo Beasley attack Sydal and Cyber Kong hits Sydal with the pineapple.  Shingo tries to get Sydal to submit using a Scorpion Death Lock, STF, and Crossface but Sydal refuses to tap.  Sydal hits a rana and then he goes to the top for a shooting star press, but Shingo moves out of the way.  Sydal lands on his feet.  Cyber Kong hits a splash in the corner on Sydal.  Cyber Kong tries for a clothesline from the turnbuckles on Sydal, but Sydal moves and Cyber Kong hits Shingo.  Sydal gets the three count with an inside cradle.

Match Number Seven:  Davey Richards defeats Roderick Strong to become the Number One Contender for the FIP Title

Each man tries to get the advantage at the start of the match but neither man is able to gain control and they try to weaken the base of the other.  Richards tries for a submission hold, but Strong makes it into the ropes.  Strong tries to get Richards in the StrongHold while Richards is able to counter and the crowd appreciates the action in the ring.  Richards tries for a handspring kick, but Strong anticipates and hits a drop kick.  The action moves outside the ring and Strong with a chop and he runs Richards into the ring post.  The action returns to the ring and Richards is able to gain control and he works over Strong with a series of kicks.  Strong tries to wear down Richards with chops and clotheslines.  They battle to the apron and Strong tries to suplex Richards, but Richards is able to get back into the ring.  Strong is sent to the floor after a springboard drop kick and Strong hits his arm on the guardrail.  When the action returns to the ring, Richards tries to get Strong to submit to a Fujiwara arm bar but Strong gets to the ropes.  Strong works on Richards’s back and he puts Richards in the StrongHold, but Richards makes it to the ropes.  Richards hits a DDT and he makes Strong tap with the 14:59.

After the match Roderick Strong gets on the mic and he says that Davey Richards is one tough guy and this was the toughest fight of his career.  He says that Davey will beat Bryan Danielson tomorrow night in Bushnell.  Strong says that he wants the first title defense.

Richards gets on the mic and he says that Roderick Strong is the best wrestler in Florida .  It is not if he wins, but when he wins the FIP title and that will be tomorrow night in Bushnell.  Richards says that he respects Strong, but he wants to know why Roderick deserves a title match because he just beat Roderick.  Richards says that Roderick will get a match because Davey says that he wants to prove himself against the best.

DP Associates come out and they attack Strong and Richards.  Strong fights off Danielson, Cyber Kong, and Shingo; and then Richards sends Danielson out of the ring.  Strong throws the pineapple at Cyber Kong and it hits Cyber Kong in the head.

Strong gets on the mic and he says that if Prazak wants to have his guys jump him and Davey, why not face them in the ring.

Dave Prazak gets on the mic and he says that they are dreaming if they think the belt is coming off Bryan Danielson.  He says that DP can stretch you and pound you in numerous ways so they accept the challenge.  Danielson is shocked that Prazak would accept the match, but Prazak tells Danielson that the plan is working.

Danielson goes crazy outside the ring and he falls down outside the ring and he bumps into the ring post and he kicks the apron.   Danielson trips when he gets into the ring and he gets the ring announcer to tell the crowd that if they continue to call him a chicken, he will leave.  Danielson asks Prazak for a scalp massage to calm him down.

Match Number Eight:  Davey Richards and Roderick Strong defeat Bryan Danielson and Cyber Kong (with Dave Prazak, Mr. Milo Beasley, and Shingo)

Despite being opponents a few minutes earlier, Strong and Richards work well together as they get the early advantage.  That is short lived when Danielson kicks Richards from the apron.  The fresher participants in this match take over as they wear down Richards.  Richards is able to tag in Strong who is fresh after resting on the apron.  All four men are in the ring, but Richards and Cyber Kong take it outside.  Strong puts Danielson in the StrongHold and Danielson taps out.

After the match, Strong and Richards both hold up the belt.  Strong gets on the mic and he says that he wants a title match next month.  Richards gets on the mic and he says that Strong is talking to the wrong guy when he tells Danielson that he wants a title match because he is going to win the title tomorrow night.  Danielson wants the ring announcer to get the belt from Strong, but Richards tells Danielson to get his belt if he wants it.  DP Associates roll Mr. Milo Beasley into the ring to get the belt and Strong throws him out of the ring.  Richards says that he does not need to steal the title belt and he wants Bryan Danielson to come out to get the belt.  Davey says that after tomorrow, he will be the champion.

Fallout 2006 Thoughts:

This DVD runs just under two hours.

While FIP does not run the building too often and focus on venues like Crystal River and Inverness , I like the way that the building is set up for the shows.  With the set up of the building, it allows for the wrestlers to be able to work outside the ring without having to worry about always going into the crowd.

The sound during the show was better than most of the other DVD releases.  I don’t know if the size of the building and where everything is set up has anything to do with the sound, but you could hear a lot of the things that were said at ringside without the microphone.

With the way that the shows are booked with matches evolving from the previous matches, they have a different feel than Ring of Honor DVDs that have edits for the entrances and cut to action at different parts of the building.

The Richards/Strong match was one of the best matches in FIP for 2006 and it came across as well on DVD as it did live in the building.  During the year 2006, Roderick Strong became the face of the company and this match started a run of very good matches culminating in his eventual title win.

This show also did a lot to emphasize the tag team division in this company.  With Black Mark et, the Heartbreak Express, and the Briscoes, FIP has a tag division that would rival either of the companies that have weekly television.

While FIP uses a lot of Ring of Honor talent from outside of Florida (I consider Roderick to be Florida talent even though he is a mainstay of Ring of Honor) but the roster of Florida talent is impressive.  Erick Stevens showed a lot around this time, but since the show in October, Stevens has improved even more.  The YRR has also improved by leaps and bounds since their inception.  It is good to see how the group evolved over time.

This show was the last one that So Cal Val has appeared on at this time.

In addition to the improvement in the in ring product, the production values of the DVDs has improved.  The commentary has always been a strong point, but now the camera angles are improved and the crowds make the overall product better.

Full Impact Pro Wrestling returns to action on Saturday March 10, 2007 in Crystal River, Florida with the First Annual Eddie Graham Battle of the Belts where the Florida Heritage Title will be awarded to the winner of an eight man tournament.  FIP Champion Roderick Strong, FIP Tag Team Champions Mark and Jay Briscoe, DP Associates Members Shingo and Delirious, Erick Stevens, and Larry Sweeney are already entered in the tournament.  One more spot is open.  Also scheduled to appear on the show are Jimmy Rave of DP Associates, the YRR (Chasyn Rance, Sal Rinauro, and Kenny King), Seth Delay, Canadian Cougar, and Jerrelle Clark .  For more information on Full Impact Pro Wrestling check out www.fullimpactpro.com
