GREAT TO SEE THE ROCK AGAIN - READER FEEDBACK TO RAW

By PWInsiderXtra Readers on 3/13/2007 10:33 AM

The Monday Night Raw of March 12, 2007 is a perfect example of how sports entertainment can be entertaining if the product is clicking on all cylinders. The show felt like a trip back to the Attitude Era. There was not much wrestling on the show, but Raw had top-notch examples of how enjoyable promos to watch can be as good as a five star wrestling match. I hope that some of the newer talents were taking notes on how to sell an idea to an audience.

It was great to hear The Rock has finally COME BACK to Monday Night Raw. The Rocks spirited comments were enthralling. I did not know that was what Umaga means in Samoan...

The contract signing was fun to watch. Austin was able to get in the faces of two billionaires and tell em they would get an 8 Billion Dollar whuppin from Stone Cold if they step out of line. That was classic stuff from the Texas Rattlesnake. In addition, the drama in the closing segment with Vince selling his hurt HAIR! contract signing was fun to watch. Austin was able to

The only question that remains is if Mick Foley can stir up some controversy on ECW Tuesday Night. We'll see.

Another good show this week with some good wrestling, continuing storylines for WrestleMania, and an awesome promo by The Great One!

First off I'd like to say that the passing of "The Big Cat" Ernie Ladd was very sad to hear about this weekend. I grew up watching Ladd in Mid-South and he was a monster! Nice touch by WWE with the opening tribute.

Cena and Michaels' promo was good but the concept of the gauntlet match was a little disappointing. WWE creative has backed themselves into a corner with the tag champs since no one has been groomed to take the straps from them. I like the harder edge that Cena seems to be developing, and sorry ladies out there, I think he should be the heel for WM. Michaels was his usual solid self.

Orton winning was no surprise and I hope they continue a possible Flair/Carlito storyline with Carlito costing Flair the shot at WrestleMania. Even at his age, I think Flair can still make Carlito a star.

Why is Chris Masters on my TV?

Awesome, awesome promo from The Rock. He doesn't need to return to the ring, but if we can get a promo like that say once a month, I'd be likely to forgive WWE for all of their bad decisions and creative directions.

At least Jeff Hardy only got mostly squashed this week. Kane throwing that meathook over the announcers table looked a little scary. And I love the Edge bits where he is suddenly championing the rights of minorities. I know it makes no sense, but what the heck; you give the man a mic and usually something good comes from it.

Congrats to Mr. Fuji, a much deserved choice for the Hall of Fame.

Who told Ashley not to look like a tomboy for the Playboy signing? She actually looked pretty good in that dress. Too bad I can't say that about her in the ring. And I am seriously, seriously, disappointed to find out Melina won't be appearing nude anytime soon! I'm starting to sound like Buck Woodward!!!

The Billionaire promo went a little too long and lacked any real excitement. Stone Cold fell back into the "WHAT?!" rut, and "The Donald" showed no interest in the whole thing. Plus Vince had a nicer tie. And I was a little surprised that after all the tension between Umaga and Lashley that they stood there in the ring and didn't try to kill each other at some point. But this was about Vince and Donald and it served it's purpose.

The final segment of the show was an injustice to all parties concerned, especially to the paying audience.

PS Regardless of the many criticisms of the TNA PPV, it is hard not to give kudos to AJ Styles and Rhino for their efforts. Unlike some of their colleagues, they managed to avoid disaster.

First off, I thought Raw has been pretty entertaining the last few weeks. A lot of cliffhangers at the end of the episodes that made me want to tune in the following week. This week, however, was a whole different story.

The opening segment with Cena & Michaels was just kind of there for me. Shawn's question about wondering why no one has asked if Cena will turn on him was a good twist. He's right! Why hasn't anyone asked that question.

Flair/Carlito/Orton was a decent match. Carlito showed a lot of fire and we all knew Orton was going to get the pin. Too bad Flair was gone from the match in the first few minutes.

Masterlock challenge? Um, what does this have to do with Wrestlemania?!?!? Who cares about Masters at this point?

The Rock's segment was great to hear. How did the Washington crowd not know it was Rock until he took the paper away from his face?!?! Do they not know his voice?

I'm going to be the first to admit, I am NOT a John Cena fan. I agree with Dave & co. about his work ethic, however, he has been crammed down my throat for the past 3 years and he really showed his moveset tonight. He has the same 5-6 moves that he uses and the boos were well deserved from that crowd. Was it just me, or did Cena bring the chair into the ring too quickly? Michaels looked really p*ssed off when he walked away. Did you notice that there was no instant replay when they came back from commercial? HMMMMMMM! Also, why didn't they show MNM's entrance? Why were they jobbed out again? At least, Nitro didn't get pinned. WWE better be careful or we won't take Mercury seriously for much longer.

Hardy vs. Khali.....Next.

Foley didn't even get a pop for mentioning Washington. Sad but what else did he expect?

Ashley? You're a horrible actress and what is up with your lip piercings?!?!?!

Melina vs. Torrie. Melina tried hard but couldn't carry Torrie to a decent match. I guess that was our T&A for the night.

I can sum up the last segment in one word: BORING! What did that contract signing accomplish? It didn't get any of the participants over. Lashley and Umaga stood there doing nothing while Austin rips into Trump and McMahon? This segment went way too long and didn't bring any added value to the show.
