Full Impact Pro Evening the Odds 2006 DVD Review
by Richard Trionfo

After Roderick Strong won the FIP World Heavyweight Title the previous night at All or Nothing, Full Impact Pro Wrestling returned to action in Bushnell, Florida. The November tradition in FIP continued with the second annual ten man elimination tag match as the main event. One team would be captained by the new FIP World Heavyweight Champion Roderick Strong while the other team would be captained by former champion Bryan Danielson. Who would finish out these two teams? What would happen as the Heartbreak Express and Black Market get ready for their Cage of Pain Match. At All or Nothing, Davey Richards challenged Roderick Strong for the FIP World Heavyweight Title, so what will Davey’s role be in the elimination tag match? Here are the results:

Your announcers are Jared David and Dave Prazak.

The show starts off with announcer Jonathan Gold telling the crowd that last night in Inverness, Roderick Strong defeated Bryan Danielson to become the third FIP Heavyweight Champion. He also announces that Bryan Danielson has already chosen Shingo and Shane Hagadorn, fellow members of DP Associates, for his team in the main event elimination tag match.

Pelle Primeau goes to the ring for the first match of the night, but before Primeau’s opponent can come out, the members of DP Associates come out. Dave Prazak gets on the mic and he says that things are not going to happen as planned. He says that he does not like Pelle Primeau in the ring. Prazak says that he is looking for the final two men for Bryan Danielson’s team. Prazak says that you are either with DP or you get destroyed by DP. Dave tells Primeau to get out of the ring and since Primeau refuses, Prazak sends Shingo to take care of Primeau.

Match Number One: Shingo (with Bryan Danielson and Shane Hagadorn) defeats Pelle Primeau
Primeau starts off the match with some offense on Shingo, but Hagadorn and Danielson hit Primeau from the floor to stop Pelle. Shingo catches Primeau on a leap frog and Shingo hits a power slam. Shingo continues the attack and then hits a suplex and Danielson makes the three count.

After the ‘match’, Hagadorn, Prazak, Danielson, and Shingo attack Primeau and whip him with a strap. They choke Primeau and Roderick Strong comes out to make the save.

Roderick gets on the mic and he says that it feels good to be the champion and he thanks the fans because without them he would not be the champion. He talks about his team for the main event and says that it would be appropriate to have the tag team champions on his team. Jay and Mark Briscoe come out and they go after the members of DP Associates and DP Associates leave the ring while Strong and the Briscoes check on Primeau.

Primeau gets on the mic and he says that he would like to get his hands on DP Associates and would like to be on Roderick’s team. Roderick accepts Primeau’s request and Primeau is the fourth member of the team.

Before the next match, the Heartbreak Express get on the mic and Sean tells the fans to show respect to the greatest tag team and the only two time FIP Tag Team Champions. Sean has a message for Black Market. Last night, they came close to ending Machete’s life when he choked him out in the ring. He mentions the Cage of Pain Match scheduled for December 15th in Crystal River. Sean talks about the barbed wire and weapons that will be used in the match and how it will end their feud. Two teams will enter the cage, but only one will leave and that team will be the Heartbreak Express. It is now time to show how violent it will be next month.

Match Number Two: Rhett Titus and Alex Payne defeat the Heartbreak Express (Sean and Phil Davis) by disqualification
Sean and Phil throw Titus and Payne out of the ring, but Titus and Payne come back in with cross bodies for two counts. Titus and Payne continue to frustrate the Heartbreak Express and Payne and Titus take Sean down with a double drop kick. The Heartbreak Express eventually takes control of the match. Titus is able to tag in Payne and Payne gets a near fall, but Payne is sent outside the ring and Sean hits Alex with a trash can. Phil and Sean get chairs from the crowd and they use them on Payne and Titus. Sean chases the referee away with a chair and the referee calls for the bell.

After the match, Sean and Phil continue to work over Payne and Titus before they head to the back. Sean says that they will teach Black Market the ultimate lesson in the Cage of Pain.

Davey Richards comes out and he tells the crowd that last night he made it clear that he wants a title match and he will do anything to get it. He wants the match, anywhere, any place, and under any circumstance. He asks Dave Prazak to come out and Prazak does come out. Richards says that he does not like or respect Prazak, but he does want gold. If he has to join forces with DP Associates to get that match, he will do it. Prazak gets on the mic and he says that he does not like Richards either, but Richards is a blue chipper and he will accept Richards into Team Danielson. Prazak says that by the end of the night, Davey Richards will learn to love DP.

Match Number Three: Canadian Cougar defeats Jake Manning
Cougar tries to get the quick pinfall on Manning, but he is unable to do so. Manning uses his size advantage to take control of the match. After working over Cougar, Manning tries for a power bomb, but Cougar escapes the hold and hits an enzuigiri to stop Manning. Cougar tries to wear down Manning and he tries for a rana, but Manning does not go down and he hits a backbreaker. Cougar is able to get a rollup for the three count.

Before the next match, Joey Machete gets on the mic and he talks about the Cage of Pain Match against the Heartbreak Express on December 15th in Crystal River. He hopes and prays that the Heartbreak Express showed how violent they can be because they will be in for a world of hurt on December 15th. He mentions that there is no So Cal Val because they took care of her while the Heartbreak Express could not take care of Allison Danger, and Allison comes out to join Murphy and Machete at ringside.

Match Number Four: Black Market (Shawn Murphy and Joey Machete with Allison Danger) defeat Bino Gambino and Jack Manley
Black Market work over Gambino and Manley as the match begins. They keep the advantage until Machete misses an elbow and that allows Gambino to get in some offense on Machete. Murphy is able to be tagged in and he takes care of Gambino and Manley with clotheslines, slams, and suplexes. Black Market get the victory with the neck breaker/side slam combination.

After the match, Machete gets on the mic and he says that tonight was not how violent Black Market can get. He suggests that the Heartbreak Express come out to see a little bit of the violence that Black Market can dish out. The Heartbreak Express come out and Machete calls Sean a ‘big fat Twinkie’ and then says that the Heartbreak Express are not used to having women, but something is missing without So Cal Val. Murphy and Machete go after the Heartbreak Express as they brawl outside the ring and to the back.

Match Number Five: YRR Member Sal Rinauro (with Daffney) defeats Erick Stevens
Stevens tries to lock up with Rinauro, but Rinauro goes to the apron and floor to avoid Stevens, and Stevens calls Rinauro a ‘chicken’. Rinauro denies that he is a chicken before getting into the ring. Once they lock up, Stevens gets the advantage and Rinauro hides behind Daffney after going outside to regroup. Rinauro tries for a head scissors off the apron, but Stevens holds on and he sends Rinauro into the wall. Rinauro is able take control of the match when Stevens misses a charge into the corner with Rinauro working on Stevens’s arm. Rinauro continues to work on the arm but Stevens is able to hit a power slam to get back some momentum in the match. Rinauro is able to hit a tornado divorce court followed by a Fujiwara arm bar, but Stevens makes it to the ropes. Steve Madison comes out to provide support for his fellow YRR member. Madison also grabs Stevens’s leg and that allows Rinauro to hit a super kick followed by Sliced Bread #2 for the three count.

After the match, Dave Prazak comes out and he says that he admires the YRR and Sal Rinauro’s victory. He mentions that he has worked with Steve Madison in the past and he needs some help so he would like Steve Madison to be part of Team Danielson tonight. Steve says that everyone knows how much he loves DP so he accepts the offer. Dave Prazak says that DP is willing to welcome Daffney into the fold.

Match Number Six: YRR member Kenny King (with Steve Madison, Chasyn Rance, and Daffney) defeats Jerrelle Clark
King gets inside Clark’s head early in the match with a number of clean breaks, but Clark hits a drop kick and King goes outside to regroup. King returns to the ring and Clark gets in a number of arm drags before King rakes Clark’s eyes to get the advantage. King gets help from Daffney while he distracts the referee. Clark starts to work on King’s arm, but King makes it to the ropes. Clark tries for a handspring moonsault, but Madison hits Clark as he comes off the ropes and King hits a Burning Hammer for the three count.

After the match, Erick Stevens comes out and he gets on the mic. He says that since Steve Madison is on Bryan Danielson’s team for the main event, he talked to Roderick Strong in the back and now he is on Roderick’s team.

Match Number Seven: YRR member Chasyn Rance defeats Seth Delay
Delay attacks Rance before the bell rings and Delay gets the early advantage in the match. Rance takes control after he counters a rana attempt by Delay and sends him face first into the mat. Rance continues to work over Delay, but Delay tries to fight back. When it appears that Delay regains control of the match, Daffney interferes and Delay chases Daffney into the ring, but Rance gets the three count with a rollup.

Match Number Eight: Team Roderick Strong (FIP World Heavyweight ChampionRoderick Strong, FIP Tag Team Champions Mark Briscoe and Jay Briscoe, Erick Stevens, and Pelle Primeau) defeats Team Bryan Danielson (DP Associates Members Bryan Danielson, Shingo, and Shane Hagadorn; YRR member Steve Madison, and Davey Richards)
Primeau and Danielson start things off and Primeau hits a tilt-a-whirl head scissors and Danielson goes outside the ring to regroup with his teammates. Each team alternates the advantage as the teams make a number of tags. Madison tags in and he works on Stevens’s already injured shoulder. Primeau hits Madison with a drop kick and all ten men get into the ring and they battle in and out of the ring. Madison eliminates Primeau. Shingo and Madison work on Stevens’s arm, but Stevens is able to eliminate Madison. Madison runs Stevens’s shoulder into the ring post after he is eliminated. Danielson eliminates Stevens with a cross face chicken wing. With the match down to four-on-three, Roderick Strong discusses strategy with the Briscoes. Strong eliminates Danielson with a Gibson Driver after escaping a cross face chicken wing attempt by Danielson. Strong eliminates Hagadorn with the StrongHold. The Briscoes eliminate Shingo with a neck breaker/power bomb combination. The Briscoes and Strong work over Richards with it now three-on-one. Richards tries to fight back, but he is unable to stop his three opponents and Strong pins Richards after a spike Jay Driller.

After the match, Roderick Strong thanks the fans.

The DVD ends with the fans leaving and Davey Richards disappointed with the fact that he did not win the main event and then he heads to the locker room.

DVD Thoughts:

The DVD runs slightly more than two hours and ten minutes in length.

I like the concept that FIP uses to have a certain match be an annual event. They have the Florida Rumble and Elimination Tag Match [and Evening the Odds 2005 is one of the newest DVD releases]. It gives the company something to build to each year and if the matches work, then they have a guaranteed sales point for the fans to be there each year.

Because of the building that they used for this show, the lighting is not as good as other FIP DVDs from Bushnell. The music also did not sound as good as other buildings that FIP has run in. However, it was easier to hear the people who were on the mic because that has been something that has been difficult to hear.

If you did not see Heatstroke ’05: Night Two, that featured CM Punk’s final match in FIP and Sal Rinauro and Spanky winning the FIP Tag Team Titles from Jimmy Rave and Fast Eddie of DP Associates, the way that this building was configured was that it is a long narrow building which has the wrestlers enter from the back of the building. There is only one side of seating, which does a good job to enhance the hard camera shots.

The commentary on FIP DVDs does a good job of discussing the history of the company and feuds and mention matches from other DVDs.

I like the way that Dave Prazak would make outlandish guesses about the identity of Canadian Cougar.
