TNAlt #3 - Sunday, November 4
Third show leading to November's PPV (available Wednesday, November 14)
Location: Orlando, FL
Announce team: Jeremy Borash & Kevin Nash
The show gets underway with a video package showing the closing moments of last week's show with the stare down between Kurt Angle and Christopher Daniels.
Jeremy Borash quickly informs us that we'll hear from both Angle and Daniels during the show and that tonight we will find out who faces Sting for his TNA World Heavyweight title at the PPV in less than a fortnight. Kevin Nash adds that a decision was made earlier today regarding the tournament with three wrestlers remaining, and we learn that after a random draw made by TNA management that Robert Roode has received a bye to the tournament final, which will take place later tonight. With that, we go to ringside for our opening contest:
Kaz vs. Eric Young - #1 Contender's Tournament, First Round Match (20 minute time limit)
We're reminded that the winner of this match will face Robert Roode later in tonight's show, with the winner of that match facing Sting for the TNA World Heavyweight Title in less than two weeks time at this month's PPV. The match gets underway with Eric Young enjoying an early advantage. After both men hook up and struggle to get the upper hand, Young whips Kaz into the ropes and hits a clothesline, then picks him up and hits a bodyslam for an early near fall.
Jeremy Borash notes that on next week's show, a contract signing will take place between Sting and whoever is the new #1 contender at the end of tonight. Kaz gets back into the match with a dropkick and follows it up with a German suplex for a near fall of his own. Kevin Nash points out that Kaz has come close to landing TNA gold already after coming close to winning the X Division title from Senshi last year and that he seems to be more focused after splitting from Serotonin.
After cutting to a commercial, we return with Kaz still in control, wearing Young down with a reverse chin lock in the centre of the ring. With the crowd behind him, Young manages to break free before mounting a comeback as we see Robert Roode watching the match on a television in the locker room area. Young hits Kaz with a clothesline and follows it up with a Lou Thesz press, and keeps the pressure on by hitting an inverted neck breaker for another near fall. Kaz attempts to land a spin kick but misses, allowing Young to hit him with a superkick. He climbs to the top rope and attempts a moonsault, but Kaz gets his knees up, winding Young. Kaz looks to go for the kill, and picks Young up onto his shoulders and hits him with his Back to the Future electric chair move, but Young kicks out on two. Kaz then looks to him a jumping high kick, but Young telegraphs it and rolls him up for another near fall as things become extremely frantic as we pass the ten minute mark. Young then hoists Kaz up onto his shoulders and sets up for a Death Valley Driver, but as he looks to land the move, Kaz manages to land on his feet and hits Young with the Wave Of The Future to get the win and progress to the final of the #1 contender's tournament. Winner at 11:32 - Kaz
Backstage, Robert Roode tells Mike Tenay that he didn't care who he faced in the tournament final tonight. "Sting," he says into the camera, "by the end of tonight, the whole world will know that it'll be you against me for your TNA World Title." He stares at Tenay, before dragging a reluctant Ms. Brooks away with him.
Still backstage, Samoa Joe is shown walking down a corridor. He passes Junior Fatu, who is sat down reading. Fatu makes a remark about how "it appears the supposedly great Samoa Joe has no place on this month's PPV," which catches Joe's attention. Fatu says that since he's got nothing planned so far, and since the talk in TNA over the past couple of weeks has been about "competition", how about Joe and Fatu go one-on-one at the PPV. "We could," says Joe, with an intense look in his eyes, "but since you're in such a confident mood, how about we go one-on-one, right now?" Fatu agrees, somewhat reluctantly as Joe walks by him, into the locker room.
We return to ringside where Jeremy Borash and Kevin Nash introduce a recap of Awesome Kong's attack on Roxxi Laveaux from last week's show. Borash confirms that a decision will be made tonight on who Gail Kim will defend her TNA Knockout Title against at this month's PPV, as Nash states that all the women in the Knockout division are running scared of Kong.
Talia Madison vs. Angel Williams
As the match gets underway, both Borash and Nash discuss the Knockout's Title situation, with Borash saying that he spoke to both these women earlier today, and that both are hopeful of being named as Gail Kim's next opponent. Nash says that both are showing potential and promise as Talia gets the upper hand with a clothesline on Angel.
Angel Williams makes her comeback and hits a running knee lift. She looks to finish the match off and climbs to the top rope, but before she can steady herself on the top turnbuckle, she is pulled off to the floor by Awesome Kong, who then enters the ring and nails Talia with a sit out powerbomb. Winner at 3:04 - No Contest
Jeremy Borash pleads on commentary with TNA management to make a decision regarding the Knockout's Title situation as we cut away with both Talia and Angel left laid out at ringside.
Sting is shown arriving at the building. Jeremy Borash tells us that Sting will be in action tonight in a non-title match, plus we will learn later tonight who he will face at this month's PPV when Robert Roode takes on Kaz with the winner being named the new #1 contender. We're also informed that we'll be hearing from Jay Lethal on tonight's show, plus The Steiner Brothers will team up with Ron Killings to face Christian Cage and the TNA Tag Team Champions, AJ Styles and Tomko.
Samoa Joe vs. Junior Fatu
We're reminded of how this match came about as Joe makes his way to the ring. They waste no time at all in getting the match started, with Joe laying into Fatu with a flurry of stiff forearms. He hits Fatu with a head butt, with Fatu shakes off as if it was nothing. He hits a head butt of his own, but Joe does the same. They then lay into each other with hard right hands before Fatu appears to be coming out on top.
Kevin Nash points out on commentary that Fatu is no pushover, and that he's won gold wherever he's been before coming to TNA. Joe misses a clothesline, allowing Fatu to hit him with a belly-to-belly suplex which results in a two count. Fatu drags Joe over to the corner of the ring, setting him up for the Stink Face. He charges across the ring, but Joe moves out the way and hits Fatu with several stiff kicks. He follows it up with a lariat, and then as Fatu rises back to his feet, Joe hits him with a jumping enzuigiri. He wastes no time in trying to finish the match off, and locks in the Coquina Clutch, forcing Fatu to tap. Winner at 6:41 - Samoa Joe
Jeremy Borash and Kevin Nash both discuss Joe's impressive win, noting that he has now won impressively three weeks in a row before throwing it backstage to Crystal, who is with Christian Cage, and the TNA Tag Team Champions, AJ Styles and Tomko.
Crystal asks Christian for his thoughts on tonight's six-man tag team match with The Steiner Brothers and Ron Killings. Christian says that "as the captain of this team," he's confident that he'll go out and get the job done tonight, with Ron Killings receiving a preview of what he's going to do to him at this month's PPV. Styles and Tomko barely talk, as Christian hogs the spotlight.
We return to ringside, where Jeremy Borash and Kevin Nash recap the goings on surrounding Gail Kim's opponent for the TNA Knockout Title at this month's PPV. Jeremy Borash introduces Mike Tenay, who is stood in the middle of the ring to make the announcement on behalf of TNA management.
HOUR TWO
Mike Tenay introduces TNA Knockout Champion, Gail Kim, who makes her way to the ring. Tenay tells her that since he knows she's anxious to find out who her opponent, he'll get right to it. He says that TNA management thought long and hard about making a decision, and that their minds were finally made up earlier tonight. At this month's PPV, Gail Kim will defend her TNA Knockout Title against Talia Madison and Angel Williams in a triple-threat match.
An irate Awesome Kong heads towards the ring, obviously less than impressed with the announcement. She's restrained by officials before she can get to the ring.
Jeremy Borash and Kevin Nash discuss the announcement. Borash says that it's an opportunity for two young girls who showed earlier tonight they wanted to prove they were worthy of beating Gail Kim for her title. Nash puts both over as having tons of potential, but questions who will eventually pay the price for keeping Kong out of the match.
Don West's 'Deal of the Day' video airs, plugging the latest TNA merchandise.
Backstage, Mike Tenay is with Christopher Daniels. Tenay asks Daniels why he chose to step into the ring on last week's show and go face-to-face with Kurt Angle. Daniels tells Tenay:
"For five years, I have helped to build the X Division. I have been loyal to TNA for five years, Mike. I've seen people come, and people go. I've seen people come to this company hoping for an easy ride and a fat paycheck. I've seen people treat this company with no respect. But most of all, Mike, I was sat in the back a couple of weeks ago, and I sat and watched Kurt Angle come out here on national TV and disrespect the X Division champion, Jay Lethal.
"See, over the past five years, I've been part of an X Division that was built on respect. Guys like Jerry Lynn set the standard for guys like myself, Jay Lethal, Samoa Joe, AJ Styles and many others. All young, ambitious, talented athletes. All disrespected by Kurt's actions. At the PPV, Mike, I'm going to teach Kurt Angle a lesson. A lesson in respect. Not just for me, but for every young athlete in this company."
The Steiner Brothers & Ron Killings vs. AJ Styles, Tomko & Christian Cage
After both teams make their way to the ring, Killings makes it clear that he wants himself and Christian to start the match. Christian has a cocky smirk on his face, which Jeremy Borash interprets as Christian taking Killings lightly. But when they go face to face and start talking trash to each other, Christian backs away. He tags in Tomko, giving him orders to destroy Killings. Tomko shoots Christian an angry look, but Christian orders him into the ring to start the match, which leaves Borash asking why Christian won't face Killings now. Nash responds by saying it's the smart thing to do.
Tomko dominates Killings with his power moves early, so Killings tags out to Scott Steiner. Steiner and Tomko go face to face and get in a back and forth punching contest with neither man leaving their feet, but Steiner rocks Tomko back into the corner where he ducks outside as we go to a commercial break. When we get back from the break, Christian and Rick Steiner are down in the ring having double clotheslined each other. Both crawl to their corners to make tags to Scott Steiner and AJ Styles.
Steiner hits Styles with a succession of suplexes and power moves, with Styles bumping all over the ring before using his quickness to quickly hit Steiner with the Pele kick out of nowhere. With Steiner down, Styles takes advantage with another kick to the head. With an opponent at a disadvantage, Christian is perfectly happy to tag in, and he slaps a chin lock on Steiner so he can taunt Killings from the apron, including the line "this is how a real world champion dominates!"
After three or four minutes of Christian dominating, Scott Steiner looks to make a comeback, but interference by Styles leads to all six men being in the ring, with the match turning into a brawl. While the referee is trying to get control of things, Tomko lays out Steiner with a big boot to the head. Christian goes for the Unprettier, but Steiner escapes and hits an overhead belly to belly suplex and makes the hot tag to Killings, while Christian tags in Tomko.
Killings unloads with punches and side kicks to take out Tomko and Styles, while Christian avoids a kick by bailing to the back. Tomko gets up to see his partner walking away, and after yelling at him, he turns around and is hit by Killings with a dropkick from the top rope for the pin. Winners at 14:21 - The Steiner Brothers and Ron Killings
After the match, Killings then stares at Christian from the ring while Christian is stood in the entranceway as Borash speculates that it appeared Christian is scared of Killings but that he can't run away at the PPV.
We return backstage, where Kurt Angle is stomping around in his dressing room, mumbling to himself and appearing to be in a really bad mood. Mike Tenay asks if he heard Christopher Daniels' comments from a short while ago. Angle grabs the mic out of Tenay's hand, stares into the camera and says:
"You bet I heard your comments earlier, Daniels. And you're on for the PPV. You talk about athletes? I'm the best damn athlete in this business, and NOBODY can stop me. You saw what I did to Jay Lethal. I crippled him. You better start enjoying life while you can, Daniels, because in less than two weeks time, I'll cripple you too."
Sting vs. Austin Creed - Non-Title Match
Jeremy Borash notes that this is Austin Creed's televised debut for TNA, and that he has a lot of potential. He adds that Sting wanted a "warm-up" match for his title defence at this month's PPV, and that he asked management to bring a previously unseen wrestler into TNA for tonight. Nash questions whether Sting is doing the right thing, with Borash responding by pointing out that Sting wanted an opponent he hadn't seen on TNA programming before, his thinking being that if didn't know his opponent, he'd not have the chance to study tapes of him, meaning he had to be ready for anything. Nash remains unconvinced by that thinking, but admits that Sting will have to be ready as Creed is a lot younger and quicker than him.
They lock up, with Creed surprising Sting early on by countering his moves and using his speed and agility to hold his own. They hook up again, with Sting hitting an arm drag and a hip toss to take control of the match as we see Robert Roode watching the match via a television in his locker room. Creed then again shows he has some talent, by hitting Sting with an arm drag of his own. He follows it up with a drop kick and with some confidence climbs to the top rope. Creed goes for a cross body but Sting sees it comes and ducks out of the way, with Creed crashing to the canvas. Kevin Nash calls Creed on making a rookie mistake, and Sting takes full advantage.
Sting hits a dropkick, followed by two flying clotheslines. He sets Creed up in the corner and nails him with a Stinger Splash as the crowd come alive and as we see Kaz watching the match from a monitor in the back as he prepares for his match with Robert Roode which is up shortly. Sting remains in control and hits the Scorpion Death Drop, followed by the Scorpion Deathlock for the win. Winner at 4:56 - Sting
After the win, Sting shakes the hand of Creed. Jeremy Borash says that Creed showed tonight that he could have a promising career ahead of him but that tonight was all about Sting, who looks ready to face either Robert Roode or Kaz at this month's PPV in less than a fortnight.
We cut to a video of a camera focused on a moon in the night sky. We soon learn that the video camera is the same one from last week as the camera pans down to reveal a dark forest. We hear the footsteps of whoever is holding the camera, as he or she walks towards what appears to be an old trailer. The camera operator opens the door of the trailer, revealing a darkened room, lit by only a single, dim light bulb hanging from the ceiling. The trailer door closes, and whoever is holding the camera make their way through the dark room, stopping as he or she come to a cupboard in the corner. The cupboard is opened, where we see a steel chair; the light from the camera revealing it has blood stains on it. The chair is removed from the cupboard, and the individual appears to sit down on it, the camera turning to look out of the trailer window back towards the forest.
A video package showing how Robert Roode and Kaz made it to the final of tonight's #1 contender's tournament is shown.
Kaz vs. Robert Roode (w/Ms. Brooks) - Winner to face Sting for the TNA World Heavyweight Title at this month's PPV
To show the importance of this match, David Penzer does the in-ring introductions while both men are stood in neutral corners. Then they slowly make their way to the middle of the ring, talk trash for a while and get into a wild brawl that spills outside and even through the crowd. On commentary, Kevin Nash states that they need to control their hatred for each other and get back in the ring because this tournament is about winning and going to the PPV to fight Sting.
They make their way back towards the ring with both men bleeding. Roode hides behind Ms Brooks and takes advantage of the distraction to cheapshot Kaz, with Brooks looking upset and concerned for both men. Roode continues to beat on Kaz as Borash puts over that this is Kaz's second match of the night and therefore Roode should have the advantage. Roode stomps and punches away at the cut on Kaz's head to the point where he is in a pool of his own blood. Roode goes for a big boot but Kaz ducks and lays out Roode with a big boot of his own, before collapsing.
With both guys down as we pass the ten minute mark, Jeremy Borash freaks out about what would happen to the tournament and to the World Championship Match involving Sting if it's a draw, but both guys make it to their feet at a count of 9. Kaz fires up, punching away at Roode and hitting a powerslam for a big two count. Ms. Brooks looks happy and is even cheering Kaz on, but Roode glares at her, and she steps away from the apron with a sad look on her face.
We approach the fifteen minute mark. Kaz looks to hit another running boot but Roode avoids it and Ms. Brooks trips Kaz. Kaz gets up and looks at Ms. Brooks with a betrayed look on his face, and Roode lays out Kaz with a lariat to the back of the head. Kaz crumples to the mat and Roode covers for the win. Winner at 16:01 and new #1 contender: Robert Roode
Jeremy Borash is still freaking out on commentary and slates Ms. Brooks and she and Roode celebrate. Kaz gets to his feet. Ms. Brooks delivers a lowblow and laughs at him, then Roode takes him out with The Payoff. Roode grabs a chair and says he's going to take Kaz out of wrestling for good, but Sting runs out for the save and Roode and Brooks escape up the ramp as the show closes.
