Introduction
Welcome to another edition of tag team weekly. Unfortunately, this week I ended up going out of town Tuesday and still have not yet returned to my hometown, my apartment, my computer or my television. I was just lucky to be able to get an hour on a friend’s machine to write this. I did not get the chance to watch ECW, Impact, or Smackdown and so I don’t feel comfortable in writing about those matches. Next week I will get things back on track and hopefully have a new “PPV by the Numbers†as well as a “Spotlight†coming at you soon! Therefore, for this edition of tag weekly we will be without the awards section, the thumbs section and only concentrate on the matches from Survivor Series and Raw…
Survivor Series
Cade and Murdoch defeat Holly and Rhodes
The good news is that finally a tag team bout as back on a PPV card and it was not only a good bout but also the championships were defended. These two teams really work well together and I hope there are several more matches between them. Murdoch’s finisher is just plain sick.
Divas Tag Team Match
Why am I covering this bout? Because it is officially listed as a tag team bout. I originally thought this was going to be a classic style elimination SS match but I am glad they turned it into a one-fall affair. Having eight or nine falls in this would have been ridiculous as many of the divas aren’t exactly ready for prime time. There were some nice spots. It was obvious Melina and James carried most of the match and our most likely the ring generals of the diva division along with
Raw
I am really starting to enjoy them as a tag team but I also like this little rivalry the two have as well. This was a solid match and a nice win for Cody Rhodes. What I didn’t enjoy was the Randy Orton beat-down. These guys look to be the number one contenders to the tag straps and a singles star (champion or not), takes them both out. It makes no sense to build up a tag team as well as they did here and then take it down immediately just to get Orton more over as a heel.
Maria and James defeat. Hall and Melina
This was a solid bout. Again, the women of the WWE are working to their strengths and by having them in tag matches, it limits each Diva’s time in the ring. This is a good thing right now, and a good way to improve the work rate and technical abilities of these great female performers. I love the new “Kiss of Death†finisher Mickie James is using.
Heat
Highlanders lose to London and Kendrick
I was surprised how much the crowd was into this match. It really helped the bout along, as this is something we’ve all seen before. Also, Coach and Todd have really come into their own as an announce team and are doing great things on the Mike. They are brilliant at making you care about what is happening in the ring but also getting over all the stories of WWE. As for the match itself, it was a good back and fourth style bout.
WGTT lose to Cade and Murdoch
I guess this is the end to WGTT and it is sad to see a great tag team go. During Heat, they played up the fact that Haas didn’t like that Shelton Benjamin was moving to ECW to once again resume his role as a singles star. They were having communication problems throughout the entire match and I think it was done on purpose, as even Coach commented on it with his broadcast. I wish that WGTT could have gone out a different way as they were a skilled tag team who deserved a championship run. Murdoch going over the top rope was great and unexpected. It was a nice finish and made sense to have WGTT lose
In closing
I read on Pwinsider that on Smackdown Miz and Morrison defended the championship titles. I didn’t see the match so I cannot comment on that but I am glad that at least for now they aren’t moving the titles to ECW with the two Extremists. The ECW brand does not need a second title of any kind. Again, I apologize for the shortness of the article this week but I will catch you next time. As I said, I am not giving out awards this week because I didn’t see everybody, however, I must say Cade and Murdoch in all their bouts looked fantastic. I’m out!
